Default KV5 different versions

One day on TombRunner forums, xRikux89 discovered there are 2 versions of KV5 !

So I made a video of this difference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ASncbQHqEM

Here's the original thread: http://tombrunner.createforum.net/ph...opic.php?t=663

I really wonder why did they remove the rocks from one version and kept it in the other version. There are 8 levels in total with different date and size plus main menu font.

I have the US version. The rocks are a different color, and have a "tacked on" look, so I assume the UK version is later. My data file for the level (jeepchs2.tr4) is dated Nov. 18, 1999 8:46:34 a.m.

Does someone with the UK version have TombViewer? That may show the original version underneath the new(?) rocks.

Perhaps they saw videos of people circling the center rocks and decided it was too easy.

I assume there must be different versions of the level, or was it a beta test level ?

Unfortunately, I no longer have my origional CORE EIDOS TR4 launch disk, as it got damaged years ago, so I cannot check the origonal level to see if this shortcut could be taken as shown on the video.

All the budget versions of TR4 I have bought in later years, have large block type outcrops of rocks to prevent this shortcut being taken by the jeep, and they all have dates on the data file as 24th Nov 1999.

The rock formation is entirely built into the level, ie, not as an object added at a later date. (I proved this using tombviewer, as rr_carroll suggested).

Going by the Nov 1999 date of the jeepchs2 data file, they must have solved this shortcut very quickly, assuming the unwanted shortcut was on the origional TR4 launch disk.

Anyone got the origonal TR4 disk to prove it one way or the other.

Great Chi,
I have my original TR4 cd. I just checked I have a save of KV5 at the begining of the level. My TR4 was bought in Australia. I'll check it out and get back to you. I have the UK version. The data files jeep are dated 18th and 19th of November 1999.

G'day The Great Chi,
I am where you posted the picture and it looks different. There is no rocky area only a sandy area. I have taken a few screenshots if you want them I can send them to you or post them here.

Sorry Mods I just realised I have double posted.

I bought my TR4 for PC from a California store when it first came out. Here are the rocks in my game:

As you see, the extra rocks weren't there yet.

Great Chi, if I understand your TombViewer shot, it shows the rocks from above. Does it look the same from below?

Edit: Ewil, please tell us the names of the other 7 .tr4 files that have a different date & size. I'm thinking they may also have non-bug shortcuts that were changed. Unless you're searching for them yourself.

I've been thinking I should have a backup copy of the game, this is another reason to get one.

It would be interesting to know if later copies of the PS game have this difference.

The rocks are not present in my version. The jeepchs2.tr4 file is dated 18th November 1999, 4.46 pm (why is it 8 hours later than rr_carroll's version, I wonder? ). I'm not sure which version I have (can't find the case right now), but I bought it in India, and IIRC, it was marked 'For distribution in South Asia only'.
