Well from what I know most members by the end were very well acquainted with the process.
That and to my knowledge as a small team they all shared opinions with each other and well, it traveled a lot faster.
Whereas nowadays critique probably takes a bit longer in bigger teams.

Regardless though, they were definitely under crunch.

I would say because of the whole Lara supposedly dying at the end thing. It would be out of place to have suddenly have her back in a gold edition. Gold editions have never gotten any real storyline or cinematics for that matter. It might have been possible that chronicles was the initial TRIV gold but that they decided to make a main title out of it because it would sell more.

Oh you're probably right... it would have been hard to logically fit the gold storyline they came up with anywhere with the main game... all the golds before had storylines tying with the main games, whereas the Fountain of Youth one literally could be a full standalone title.

It's very difficult to say. I think without Chronicles, AoD may have turned out completely different. It may have had a different story, different locations, mechanics, everything. That being said, yes, however it would've turned out, I do think that its development would've been less troubled if the TR veterans had been allowed to work on it from day 1.

The issue remains that Core found it overwhelming to work on a bigger project than what they're normally used to. But having them work on it from jump instead of depleting the experienced members into making TRC would have made them realize what they were doing wrong and tired to fix it sooner.

Not sure about the gold team, though. They made levels but how experienced were they in making a complete package? (story, cinematics, technical polish, adding new features). They could have split the work between gold team and the experienced team..I dunno, I dunno how they think Eidos are stupid.
