Oh EscondeR, you really try too hard to sound professional. I read your posts and I'm like WTF?! o_O As if you try to play mindgames or something. "You've just reached third stage" & "you keep persuading yourself". Nope, boy it's just that you are not pleased and as a result bash the game and the developers and taunt, mock, make fun of and sometimes even bully the people who appreciate the latest game. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

So we know from one of CDs podcasts that originally Lara would have to sacrifice Sam. But focus testers didn't like it and so it was changed. Same thing with white ledges. One interview I read said people were getting lost, hence I assume all the hints were implemented.
In that light I found this very spoilerific The Last of Us interview interesting: The final ending, however, initially "tested very poorly," Druckmann says, with focus testers - and some of the team - complaining about it feeling "unclear" and "anticlimactic". They didn't change it however. If there is anything CD should learn from ND it's the above. Focus testers suck the soul out of things if you let them. Always have, games or movies. |

And, unlike friends who are not TR fans, I've been a repeat customer for years. Even buying the games for different platforms. And re-buying them on Steam. So, a fan will spend more on TR games and merchandise than non-fans. Also, fans do cosplay and art that keeps the franchise in the public's eye. Free advertisement basically. The enthusiasm draws others in. The franchise has made it to it's 10th game because of fans not the opposite. That's why I get frustrated with "fans" who think the franchise has to become something else all together in order to sell. That's a bunch of garbage. I think most games sell below targeted sales figures. That doesn't mean the model is bad and needs to be completely revamped. It just means that not every game is going to appeal to all audiences and there for game developers need to accept that. That's why I like indy game companies. Their focus is on the product and not purely on sales figures. They aren't trying to appeal to everyone. Last edited by Bishop Knight; 07-08-13 at 19:06. |

You can't fault everyone else for not understanding the tongues that you speak in half of the time.
Can we get this thread back on track now? You guys have derailed it for like 7 pages. ![]() |

Yep. I hear you. Although, in CD's defense, I suspect that most of the pressure to appeal to as many people as possible comes from Square. They are failing on the Japanese front and want all the other studios to make up for it. When Eidos got bought out by them I knew it wasn't any good. When small studios get bought up by big ones, the games tend to focus on sales figures and get away from staying true to their franchises.

Most indie developers would want to make a game that is theirs not try and recreate something. So, it'd seem rather redundant to give it to an indie developer. Saying that indie development is basically turning into the mainstream as it is, with the same idea and concept being produced over and over by many developers.

Sorry, but cosplaying leads to nowhere IMO. It's nice if someone decides to dress up like their favourite hero/heroine, but from what I experienced cosplay provoked nothing else, but "I came here to see tits" Otherwise cosplaying pop culture only really caters for other cosplayers and sadly that's a small number. If I dressed up as... well, as anyone, I would be ridiculed by everybody around me. My parents, my brother, my friends. Everyone... Quote:
Anyway do you think the game doesn't appeal to the general audiences then it should be ditched? Because that's what I understood from that. You act like as if TR haven't already fallen into that trap. My favourite is TRIII, but you can't deny the fact that it sold less than TRII or TRI and TR4 sold even less. Plus, anyway TRI didn't even have a fanbase at first. So obviously it was developed for the general audiences. It was definitely not an indy game. Quote:

Edit2: Oh, right. So that 'V' was an arrow downwards. Her we go again with the bullying. What I stated above. Since you seem to think you are so much more intelligent than us, then you should maybe acknowledge the fact that this is going nowhere. Thanks. Last edited by tomee; 07-08-13 at 19:47. |

I think Guardian of Light gives us a pretty good idea of what would happen if the franchise ever ended up in the hands of an indie dev.
