I think Eidos kept pressing Core to make more Tomb Raider games. Certainly that was the case after four or five games anyway.

Tomb Raider III was originally supposed to be a spin-off called The Further Adventures of Lara Croft. As the developers introduced new ideas, it became a full-fledged sequel. The game was supposed to come out in 1999 and was supposed to have a new graphics engine, which would give new moves and new animations for Lara. The demand for a new Tomb Raider game in the market and from many fans was great, so Eidos asked to reduce the time and to release the game no later than 1998. The team was forced to tear down the imaginary house of cards they had created and, with the help of Martin Gibbins, improved the Tomb Raider II graphics engine, once an improved version of the Tomb Raider graphics engine. With the release of Tomb Raider III, in 1998, Core hoped that they temporarily finished developing new Tomb Raider games but it wasn't. Eidos managed to make the developers themselves hate Lara: they began to lose interest and will, they buried Lara under the rubble of the Temple of Horus in Tomb Raider The Last Revelation because they wanted to kill her forever; they called Tomb Raider Chronicles "a bunch of bull****" due to its forced development. The only hope at the time was Tomb Raider Next Generation, which later became The Angel of Darkness, which instead led to the failure of Core and the death of its Lara Croft, due to the problems already known. You can hardly realize the project of resting when you work under the addiction of someone (Eidos in this case) who thinks only and exclusively about earnings and success, sucking your blood. That's it. Last edited by Guy N. Cognito; 27-04-21 at 20:16. |

From what I've been told, Eidos made a lot of money from Tomb Raider, and so they insisted for Core to keep going with Tomb Raider because of the financial gain. If Eidos were struggling financially and were in desperate need of the money, then I can understand it. If Eidos had plenty of money and did it out of greed, then that is harder for me to frogive.

I don't understand how Eidos could be struggling financially when Lara was generating profits from announcements, a movie, magazines covers, U2, the games selling around the world... There are clear signs of mismanagement there.
What i can see is that TRIII would have benefited a lot if It were released on 99. The graphical update on TLR is amazing for ps1, a lot of new movements and a much better storyline. I can say all this even if TR3 is my favourite, i also find funny how the devs hate so much Chronicles but there are a lot of improvements and a lot of work put on the game (all the fmvs, cutscenes, programming new kind of enemies AI). I love all the 6 originals, 9 including the gold expansions, so somehow everything works fine for me :P |

Would Eidos have made money from all of those things?
