I always thought this was a hint you came closer to the artifact. The unnatural energies from the stone is corrupting the jungle and turning it's inhabitants aggressive.

Lud's Gate has the Minisub Glitch, which is the best glitch in the Tomb Raider series!

oh if you use sardoc's TRIII With No Healcrystals patch he actually adds the cute new nose textures (absent in TRII) to all of the outfits. he does it for TLA too. this is her TRII cutscene model which has the nose textures, afaik. sardoc said he'd look into TRII as well someday but i don't blame him for not looking into it right away

Nobody has mentioned the (in my opinion) significant and stupid control change. In the first two games, you have dedicated sidestep buttons. This allows you to turn in place while holding the walk button, as well as turn and sidestep at the same time. For some reason, they decided to change all that, and now you have to hold walk and press the turn buttons in order to sidestep.

Now if you're carefully walking and setting up a jump, you have to release the walk button every time you want to turn while standing still, then re-press walk if you want to walk forward. You also can't sidestep and turn at the same time. Most annoyingly, if you are walking forward, left and right allow you to turn, but as soon as you reach the edge of a block and you stop, the button that just had you turning suddenly has you sidestepping.

The reason is simple - they needed to free 2 buttons for 2 new extra moves - duck and dash.

yeah i'm not sure what else they could have done. it was that or another, far stupider and more complicated button combo. i am sad you can't do circular sidesteps as a result but i'd rather have crawl/sprint than that

That's funny, I prefer the opposite! I don't like going back to TR1/2 and not having the walk functionality unified under a single button. But I don't use the sidesteps that often anyway.

And like Lwmte said, they had to make room for duck and dash somewhere after all.

I agree on Lud's Gate being bad. Underwater mazes, an attempt at a 'tomb' feel at the start, and the massive sphinx that's there for no reason, other than 'remember Sanctuary of the Scion?'

And it apparently is in the Natural History Museum. Eh? Since when did the Natural History Museum have Ancient Egypt exhibits? Not exactly their wheelhouse.

It's just the naming that's off. I really think they should have set the level in The British Museum instead, since that one has had a famous Egypt exhibit. It's also much closer to St Paul's and Aldwych than the NHM is.

London was a bizarre ensemble of random ideas. I really think Core, as a British team, just really wanted to get a London level with some iconic sights in there for the sake of it. I don't think they considered how it would all make sense. Rather like how EM ran away with the idea of Paiteetee in Shadow.
