Yes, I was interested to hear that in the documentary. I can understand the worries of those who apparently didn't want it to go that way - I suppose they've been somewhat vindicated now though.

And this is why it was a mess, I guess. They seem to emphasize a lot how the developper is historically a single-player game experience studio that produces AAA games but with a smaller development team. Basically, Avengers was sort of doomed as soon as they switched to multiplayer. I would have been curious to see what a fully single-player experience would have been like.

I think it's also interesting the choice to make it multiplayer (and so GaaS?) was a CD choice, not an SE one as many seemed to have thought.

Hey I guess there are hints of them wanting to go there with Lara Croft games and the reboot games multiplayer/ co-op extras. I also guess they wanting something fresh from the linear storytelling solo adventure they are used to do.

Honestly, looking back I don't think SE were as much of an issue as people like to make them out to be. I think they were honestly pretty hands off; Embracer being the same doesn't seem like much will change - unless the change comes from within CD (Which it seems to be on face value).

The people that were in charge of the reboot weren't even in charge of Rise though. Crystal in the last 10 years has been very changeable in terms of who does what. The management since 2019, for example, is made up of people who are mainly long standing employees - but not the same ones during the reboot era by the look of it.

There is still Scott Amos and Noah Hugues there, though nothing indicates they're directly involved in the TR sphere. Confirmed are Dickinson, Belinda Garcia and Jeff Ross, at least. Those are all new since Rise/Shadow.

I don't think their relationship with Core was good at all. They didn't even bother to mention that they ended up getting Core's TRAE cancelled with their Anniversary game.
I also remember reading here that Lara's LAU games voice actress wrote a book about TR and Crystal forced her to remove some stuff where she described the relationship between Core and Crystal.(Which obviously wasn't a good relationship) And kinda ironic that making Anniversary just took away resources and staff from Underworld and that was one of the main reasons that Underworld didn't get the attention that it needed. Also, they never talked about the fights they had with Silicon Knights while making the first Kain game. This old thread kinda explains it: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/a-pos...thread.503761/ Don't think that I'm a Core fanboy. I'm not and I consider AOD as Core's biggest failure. But that doesn't mean that I have to pretend that Crystal made no mistakes. |
