Hi, I recently bought a laptop with windows 11 and I'm having trouble getting classic tomb raiders to work properly.
Specifically all tomb raider 4 (gog original and tomb raider level editors) have strong glitches: textures appear and disappear all the time, and some portions of the polygons disappear. This happens both in the start menu and when the game is started. I attach an example image: https://i.postimg.cc/jqD479Gh/tomb-raider-example.png I tried also tomb raider 2. The graphics are ok, but it's jerky. I have not tested tomb raider 1 and 3. To try to fix it I did the following: - boot in win xp compatibility mode - installed directx9, - installed all visual C 86 and 62 from 2005 to 2015 (with all-in-one version) - used the windows-xp-vista-multipatch patch (the file is called trupdate) - used the widescreen patch I tried to put several dll files both in the game folder where the exe is, and in system32. these files are: binkw32, d3drm, d3dcompiler_47, 3dfxspl when I had win10, it was enough for me to install trupdate, boot in win xp compatibility mode, and everything worked without any problem (probably I had already installed visual C before). My PC specs are: MSI with intel 12th, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16gb ram. Could anyone help me please? |

Isn't that the same problem as I had with Radeon 6000 graphics? Using voodoo glide drivers may help.

Thanks a lot for the answer.
I tried to copy the dll files present in the dgVoodoo patch but the only result obtained was that the game no longer opened and an error file was generated. I don't know if the problem is the files or the fact that I don't know how to use the patch. i tried to download the voodoo graphic driver dlls and put them in the system32 file but got no results. II also tried installing them with the device manager, but it didn't install anything. in the days following the opening of this thread I tried to use windows 7 with virtual box to check if the problem was only the operating system. to my surprise, even on virtualized win7 I had the exact same problems as on win11 Last edited by iside_11; 26-12-22 at 14:11. |

The dgVoodoo doc is very poor, possibly assuming user knows what to already. But all I did was to copy the dlls directly to TR game folder. Then run game setup and where you select graphics adapter, there should appear voodoo graphics instead of your graphics card name. That worked for me.

What resolution are you trying to run the games with?

Hi everyone. First of all thank you for the replies, I can tell you with extreme happiness that I have solved the problem.
In recent days I had done a total cleaning of windows by formatting, so I was able to reinstall all the drivers. These graphical errors appeared with all resolutions. I solved the problem by copying the dgVoodoo files of the x86 version instead of using the x64 version. So my mistake was that before I copied the wrong files. In fact now I see the dgvoodoo watermark. This solution worked for gog's tomb raider 4, tomb raider 2, and trle. Works badly with tr3. I see the dgvoodoo watermark, but the graphics are very buggy. Here an example https://i.postimg.cc/Y0bvHgNf/tr3.png I didn't need to override tr4 as mentioned by Niko. I sincerely thank you all update: I fixed the problems with tr3 as well. I don't know why it didn't work before, in any case I used the dgvoodoo files from the MS -> x86 folder and everything worked fine Last edited by iside_11; 02-01-23 at 22:57. |
