There's no secret when it comes to manually texturing... there's a fake UV Map tutorial for more complex objects though... I can't find it, unfortunately. I'm sure someone will know it.

TRF (Patrick van Vliet) made it for me back then.
He used to be active here, but I'm not sure if he still is.
