I am pretty sure its probably harder to act with a microphone a bit, since you need to get across alot more with your voice. (and Vice versa for poeple used to voice acting and real acting I guess.) Personally I'm okay with either rating I guess? it does seem every other game is M rated nowadays though. I guess just have the M rating come naturally if that makes sense, rather than having really gratitous gore everywhere, Silent Hill 4 is 18 for instance and its not massively worse than Sh2/3, it is more graphic (but arguably has softer-subtones) but it never really feels like they were trying to milk an 18 rating for all its worth if that makes sense. TF2 isn't 18 rated over here at least, AOD somehow creeped by with a 12 rating from what I can only assume is some sort of massive error over here. (we have PEGI over in Ireland) Last edited by Samz; 04-11-19 at 21:22. |

You can have a mature story with a dark atmosphere with a T rating. I don't want swearing in TR, but I do want horrific deaths. I want to see Lara decapitated, beheaded, burned alive, impaled, skull crushed, cannibalised, sacrificed as part of a Satanic ceremony, slashed to death, have her eyes gouged out and her skin dissolved off by acid.

In my opinion, whether a game should receive a T or M rating should depend on what type of story the devs and writers are trying to tell, not the other way around.
For example, Batman: Arkham Knight was the first Batman game to receive an M rating, not because it features an abundance of graphic violence or cursing, but because it decided to delve into some of the comics’ darkest stories, thus the rating was necessary and earned because of the genuinely mature nature of the story and themes. In the reboot Tomb Raider games, only the first one, being a grim thriller about an innocent college student being forged into a murderous survivor during a traumatic experience, feels like it actually deserves the rating. The other two are just standard Tomb Raider storylines with extra swear words and brutalized corpses thrown in for brand consistency. |

Depends on the game they're making, honestly.
The fact that AOD was rated T, back in the day, mostly had to do with the general public's exposure to video games, I think. They weren't mainstream yet, and so you could get away with a lot more... Whereas, today, no doubt it would've received an M rating - and if that was the type of story and aesthetic they were going for (and they actually stuck to it ) in a new game, then that's the rating I'd want. If it were a more classic-oriented experience, in terms of the stylization, then a T rating is all they would need... I think it's a little strange, anyway, to predicate the game's content on its rating, and not the other way around. |

In the UK, the game rating system has been set by a few different bodies: ELSPA, BBFC and PEGI.
TR1: 15+ (ELSPA); 12 (PEGI Modern Rarely seen) TR2: 15+ (ELSPA); 12 (PEGI Modern Rarely seen) TR3: 15+ (ELSPA); 12 (PEGI Modern Rarely seen) TR4: 11+ (ELSPA); 12 (PEGI Modern Rarely seen) TR5: 11+ (ELSPA); 12 (PEGI Modern Rarely seen) TR6: 12 (PEGI) TRL: 12 (PEGI Original-Most common); 16 (PEGI Re-rated Rarely seen) TRA: 12 (BBFC Most common); 16 (PEGI Rarely seen) TRU: 12 (BBFC) TR: 18 (PEGI) Rise: 18 (PEGI) Shadow: 18 (PEGI) I think at TRL, PEGI must've changed the way they rate games, as is evident by the re-rating for TRL... and also I think they're completely automated. I would like a 12 or a 16 for the next game just to keep it on the light and friendly side, but given there are human enemies in TR, a 12 will be impossible with PEGI. |

Makes me wonder why the ELSPA still suggest they're in effect when I've never seen their logo on anything post PS1. |
