I think it does more damage if you use the Blue Ammo but yeah I have always thought it was quite useless to have 2 ammo types for the Shotgun.

I found it useful for the Hydras in Chronicles mostly.

I think it has more pellets in a wider-spread.
Never really needed but I guess it does more damage if you try to fire as close as possible. |

I use it, but only if I want to save regular ammo or if I have none left. It doesn’t really do any good from what I know, it just messes up the concentration of focus of the shots.
I think it does help a little with armored enemies. |

Wideshot does have its uses, I tend use it on human enemies like the Ninjas for example

Wideshot is weaker (15 dmg instead of 18) but spreads further and is better when you have more enemies in your face, because they all get hit at once

Except there's never more than two enemies close to you at once unless you run around leaving them to gather up. And even then, I doubt it would kill them more quickly anyway.
