I never got into Angel, i watched it when it first aired and didn't make it past the first season then tried it on DVD and again couldn't finish it. I read the first few issues of S8 and thought it was kinda cruddy, if it didn't pick up that's a shame, it had potential.

Angel's best seasons were its first and second. S3 was when the show jumped the shark in the biggest way, and S4 is genuinely (I am not exaggerating) the worst season of television I've ever watched. Most of S5 was actually the writers repairing the damage S4 did to the show.

As far as I know, the motion comic only covers the first part of S8. I wouldn't recommend the comics, anyway. S8 is one of the worst things anyone has ever done, ever. Once I caught up to S9, I dropped it for good. What they did to the series is unforgivable.

So, I'd recommend just calling it quits here and having those last Buffy memories be somewhat decent ones. Unless you're also watching Angel...

One of the things I liked about season 7 were the one-off, high school centred episodes. They were sort of like a homage to the first few seasons.
I can't say I enjoyed the Caleb/Potentials episodes as much though.

The Season 8 comics scream of "We're doing it because we can".

Yyyeep, stuff like Lessons, Him, and Help really felt a lot like classic Buffy, which was sorely needed after the very different sixth season.

Then everything just kinda... egh'd.

I couldn't resist. Watching Wicked City made me think about Urotsukidoji, since the difference between the two is basically Lovecraft Lite and Cosmic Horror. I decided to pop in Legend of the Overfiend and watch it again for the first time in 9 years or so.

Wow, this movie is still eerie and twisted. If Sigmond Freud and H. P. Lovecraft wrote fiction together as horny, alienated adolescents, this is what we'd get. There is a lot of tentacle rape, and rape in general. But while the temptation is to write it off as a work of unabashed sadism and misogyny, doing so would be dishonest. The story, art, and animation are far too ambitious for that. So we're left with an uncomfortable middle ground. This movie is almost impossible to recommend to anyone, yet it's too compelling to be dismissed as mere hentai. Who is this movie for? I can't say, exactly.
