I have two PS1's: One very early model(1995) and one from ~1997 and they are not the same.
Early PS1 has not so advanced GPU, so there is some color banding ( like on PC in 256 color software mode). Even Sega Saturn hasn't such issues. ![]() It is safe to say that most people who played TR on the release in 96, saw the game as it is on the left and not the way we know it now. It is not surprising that people so admired the 3dfx version in 96) |

Wow, the original version suffered pretty badly from the color banding. Thanks for sharing the comparison pics! I had the fancy slim PSone, so I always got to play the smooth looking version.

The color banding gives the columns ridges like greek columns.

My PS1 debug kit has the older GPU. I just assumed this was some strange detail in the early debug models.

Ok first off you are very brave playing the PAL version on an actual console tbh, can't imagine the pain
![]() Anyway this is really interesting, I've never seen the same in an emulator ![]() ![]() I know Mednafen is pretty strict about the BIOS usage and requires one of the 550x series to work properly. |

How is that brave and pain? I played it all the time on PAL version with SCPH 1002 Playstation console, I still play it to this day and it's still bloody great!
