I know everyones excited by the concept art but I have to say - I think the story it's depicting is super generic.
Croft Manor is raided - what's new. Their stealing a dagger instead of the all seeing eye from 2001. She has a globe in her front yard ![]() Seeing a bunch of vases and statues is just meaningless furnishing and to be honest - if she is more selective in what she takes, it actually doesn't make the colonist aspect of who she is that harsh because she's really only after the most special, certain treasure versus a load of "ancient junk" which is typically what the newer variations of the Manor is filled full of. I think if her trophy room is just a dinosaur head, a shot up scion, a Chinese dragons dagger and the infamous medusa mask - it says a lot more about her character and that's what the TOMB RAIDER story lives and dies by and separates her from Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones is a Spielberg amalgamation of B-Movies from the years before with his blockbuster aesthetic where as Toby Gard and Heather Gibson have stated in newer interviews he was mostly inspired by big epics. Where as Indiana Jones is running through tight corridors and boulders, reminiscent of B-Movies - Lara should be exploring exotic locations that she's out of place in. She should be running up giant steps that you feel once upon a time, giants roamed on. I love a Manor raid but if they're going to redux that then how can they tell the story differently. ...So while I'd love a Tomb Raider 2 (Ben Wheatley version depicted here) between those opening boards and this - I don't think this film would have magically elevated the franchise, it would be more of the same. Edit #2: Creatives really need someone to empathise and understand Lara Croft AND TOMB RAIDER. When we say Croft Manor, you can't think like an old fashioned movie writer and be it's a big blockbuster, epic visuals so her trophy room is the size of a museum. What makes the brand appeal so broadly was the fact WOMEN and MEN would love to live in Croft Manor, it was a very reasonable sized estate that's fancier than anything we'd over own but I never once felt Lara was Jeff Bezos rich. Like just give me a house this sized; don't be going all Downtown Abbey or Hatfield House on us! https://twitter.com/Nicobass_DOX/sta...564867/photo/1 Last edited by GeekOfComedy; 02-09-22 at 22:48. |

^This is a great post, GeekofComedy. You raise some great points. I'm glad that movie didn't happen. It is just a repeat without any thoughtfulness put into it and it doesn't get the character or the manor right. They don't understand Tomb Raider and it feels very random and haphazard the way they went about throwing all the different elements together.

Ben Wheatley's version was a smaller and cheaper movie (talk about 50M) so, the assault on the mansion I think it would be something more minimalist than in TR2001
For now we have: a prologue of Lara diving in Mexico, some men stealing a dagger from her mansion... maybe with luck we can find out more about the story Hopefully, in the future, maybe storyboards of Misha's story will also leak too |

Ben Wheatley's assistant posted 3 pages of Amy Jump's script on a job site. The film was called "Shadow of Tomb Raider" and started with Lara diving in Cozumel. There wasn't much else. It was shared here.
