good review

We can have an opportunity if they start selling it as the first video game adaptation that is good
This makes me so happy. I believe the movie could be a huge hit if people start reviewing it as such. I don't know, guys. I have a good feeling about this.

So sad they haven't marketed this female empowerment angle more it would've worked wonderful for marketing.

One thing I'm most worried about is the cinematography. Everything from the trailers looks a little too... clean... this film would've really benefited from a handheld camera style approach. Kinda like the revenant or Logan.

These shots can be seen in the longer scenes like the Graham Norton clip and even some shots in that puzzle scene. It's always really hard to identify that type of cinematography unless it's the Wonder Woman trailer where they let that action scene play in sequence for a few seconds of her running and dodging bombs

The cinematographer worked on the recent critically acclaimed Mission Impossible movies so they know how to direct action.

Oh I'm not saying they're bad at cinematography. Just that it's the "wrong" style for this film. A lot of the films he's worked on (like Mission Impossible and Kingsman) are very sleek and stylish. Whereas this film should've gone for a more gritty and brutal style. Just looks a bit too... polished. The scene on the plane-wing for example. Very stationery shots and lots of zoomed out angles. I dunno. Seems a little too safe for me.

Great point - IMO I was afraid if they went that way, the film might have looked too cheap and get the "Looks like a Netflix movie" response - at least this looks cinematic and that it belongs on a wide screen theatre. I know why you'd go there because it's an easy way to convey a gritty tone but Tomb Raider faces such an uphill battle that at least this way they get to display the "hostile environments" and I do see that shake camera in some scenes, watch trailer one as she wakes up on the boat during the storm, it seems you'll get that mobile camera there.

I think the only positive thing is that they seem to be using lots of extremely long rails for cameras in this film so we should be getting action shots like we've never seen in anything before. They appear to have created extremely long rails a Camera can track on I think their infamous for being used in that Mission Impossible 3 scene where Tom Cruise runs forever in one take and their using that for both Hong Kong and her running in the Jungle. But lately in films I haven't seen that type of camera work mainly because Action scenes don't tend to be that physical.

I am glad that they took this more light-hearted approach. The gritty approach worked amazingly for the game, but I doubt that the audience would have liked it in a two hour movie. Anyway even rise wasn't as brutal as the original game.

Shots like this is why I'm not as worried. This is a beautiful, chill inducing handheld shot, and I do hope it makes it into the final cut of the film.

There's plenty of other small shots like this, but I don't think you should overdo that style. It gets really tiresome, especially in a theater. Use it when it's necessary, and I think that's what they've done. Like I believe Logan and Revenant did. They had their fair share of "clean" shots.

Here are some more handheld cam shots. Seems like hey are using the technique for more intimate moments, whether it's tighter action or visceral character moments.
