Didn't he admit it was the fruit? that was all he ever wanted?

Also I think they needed some kind of explanation as to how he was still alive. I believe the story up until 5 was that after 3 he fought Mundus, lost, his body was destroyed and what was left of him (his soul) was put into the Nelo Angelo armour, and once Nelo was done that should have been it for good.
If they retconned it then fine I guess but it just seems like they just skipped over it like "Who cares why he's still alive, you wanted him back so here he is"

I don't think it was the fruit per se, just power in general. In DMC3 it was Sparda's power, theoretically in the form of his sword, Force Edge, combined with the amulets to make the Devil Sword Sparda.

In DMC5 it was the fruit. Whatever maguffin he chooses, the point is just to achieve absolute power.

What he plans on doing with that power? Meh, it's never really explained and that's fine.
Sometimes it's the power we achieve along the way that was truly what we were looking for all along.

Looks as if there isn't going to be any further DLC despite a data mined playable certain someone who was found in the game.

While I kind of wish there was more costumes to unlock like in 3, beyond that I'm actually respecting that a lot especially from Capcom.

Finished games with DLC as an optional add on it always how it should be and this standard should be set more often. As this is how we found ourselves accepting paying extra money for a game that was deliberately not released in it's entirity as the "way things are now"

As a bit of a newbie to the series, are any of the later games more like DMC1 with enemy telographing?

I found 2 to be frustrating and while I eventually finished it due to spamming Devil Trigger for the when the difficulty sky-rocked 3 didn't really seem to fix anything beyond letting you dodge-mid-attack again and the lack of a DT to recover from unfair damage is kinda annoying me.

Does DMC4/5 go back to when enemy attacks that teleported/went across the room have a clear distinct unique sound effect? 2/3's severe lack of this has just made them extremely annoying to play as 2 Lacked them completely and in 3 they're way too quite and frequently hard to hear over the combat music.

its quite a make or break thing for me as while I genuinely loved 1 most of the way through, I'm pretty given up on 3.

I thought 4 was an improvement on enemy telegraphing (particularly audio cues) and appreciated that they realized that DMC3 had WAY too many dumb gimmicky enemies so barring a few of annoying exceptions, generally enemies are less stressful to fight than in 3. And combat felt more DMC1 than it ever had since which was like a dream for me.

The good thing about Nero in DMC4 is that dealing with one foe at a time safely in the air is pretty much what he is custom built for. So if you're getting tired of getting clipped, head to the sky.
