Red face Cannot run any custom levels on Windows 10

Has anyone else had this problem?

When I google this problem in regards to running Tomb Raider 4 on Windows 10 via Steam this sort of issue seems to be prevalent and everyone has a different solution for getting it fixed and none have worked for me.

I've tried downloading some custom levels to play them - first 'Tomb Raider Reimagined' by AoDfan and then 'Xumongkh' by Titak - nothing runs. First a patched TRNG tomb4.exe wouldn't run because of my anti-virus software... so I temporarily disabled that and tried downloading and installing everything again. Still not working. The only message I (sometimes) get is "Failed to setup DirectX".

If this is an issue that is in a sticky thread or technical support somewhere else then please direct me to it and perhaps I didn't need to make this thread. But it seems like every few years I upgrade to a new PC, the method to getting these old things like TR custom levels to work get more and more complicated and it's harder to find workaround support for any of it.

just change your settings in the setup of tomb4.exe. you can acess that by launching the game and immediately press/hold ctrl till it opens.

It's not possible for me to select anything in Emergency Settings, no matter what other combinations I click in the above menu.

In Output Settings select Microsoft Direct3D...
In Render Options section choose Hardware acceleration (instead of Software mode)

Try using dgvoodoo2 http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/

Then re-run the TR4 graphics setup and choose hardware acceleration.

Maybe you have a laptop with double videocard? Laptops with Nvidia Optimus drive tomb4.exe crazy. You need to go to Nvidia control panel and manually force tomb4.exe to use built-in internal videocard. It will not work with Nvidia one.

Do not set it to a resolution higher than 1920x1440 or you will get that problem. It happens to me when I set it to a very high resolution.
