From the tomb raider suite newsletter via email

Quote:
Hello everyone.

It's been a while since I did one of these so there are quite a few things to cover. I'll try to be as brief as I can.

Firstly, I wanted to let you know that the Tomb Raider Remastered TV documentary that we detailed as one of our stretch goals in our Kickstarter campaign was completed, and many thanks to all those involved. Unfortunately, for legal reasons, we were not able to release it.

We also completed the fully remastered original soundtracks for Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3 - another one of our stretch goals from the Kickstarter campaign - which included all the music from the Cutscenes and Full Motion Video sequences. Unfortunately, again, for legal reasons we were unable to release them.

Now that our 7-year License Agreement with Crystal Dynamics has ended, at this stage we’re not sure if we will get a chance to release the documentary and the remastered soundtracks, but if we can find a way to do it, we will.

With all this said, now that our license has now come to an end, we will be rebranding all our merchandise. We will have a new logo, new posters, new T-Shirts, and of course new album covers.

To that end we are having a 50%-off stock-clearance sale in our E-shop, starting today. We have until the end of November to sell everything so we are leaving the sale open until then. After that, these products will be removed from our e-shop and we will temporarily close while we prepare the site for our new range of products.

Please have a look through the e-shop as it stands, there are still loads of goodies to be had including these amazing posters which I finally managed to hang in the stairwell leading up to my studio.

We are also selling these exclusive Tomb Raider Suite gift boxes which we had designed specifically for our Composer Buffet Reception at Hatfield House back in 2018.

Inside each box you will find the following items:

1. Tomb Raider Suite Website Poster (A4)
2. 2 x Tomb Raider Suite Signature Cards
3. Standard and VIP Souvenir Tickets to the London Composer Buffet Reception 2018
4. Signed Tomb Raider Suite Original Score Contents Page (A4)
5. Tomb Raider Suite Sticker
6. Tomb Raider Suite Mints
7. Souvenir Tomb Raider Suite Raffle Ticket
8. Souvenir Tomb Raider Suite Retail Edition Release Notification Ticket
9. Standup Lara Croft Cut-Out Figure
10. Tomb Raider Suite World Premiere Flyer (A5)

In addition, we are adding a Deluxe Tin CD Case to each gift box for free, randomly selected from one of our 4 album designs. So if you already have a Jewel Case CD, you can upgrade your case to something a little more exclusive!

The gift boxes plus contents are priced at £60 each but with our 50% sale you can get the signed gift box, all these souvenirs + a Deluxe Tin CD Case for just £30. It’s first come first served as there are a very limited number so do order soon.

To top that, we are no longer charging VAT so all prices on our site are now WITHOUT VAT!

We plan to open the shop again early in 2025 and we are continuing to mount more concerts in the time ahead. I will of course keep you informed about these ventures via our newsletter and social media channels.

So, until then, I wish you all a very pleasant end to this year and I'll see you again in 2025.

Welp, I guess this is it, then. No remastered soundtracks, no clean FMV music. I expect this project will just disappear into the ether once those boxes are sold.

IDK why Crystal didn't just release that as part of the Deluxe Edition instead of what we got with it.

I have no idea what the reason for the documentary would be.
As for the remastered OST, this could well be Nathan being Nathan and not coming to terms with whatever royalties requests or something like that

So, the Kickstarter campaign was 7 years ago, he signed a 7-year license agreement with Crystal Dynamics, he hasn't fulfilled the stretch goals in all this time for some reason, and now that he's finally completed them, he can't release anything because the license agreement has expired?

Did I get it right, or am I missing something?

I don't even know what the reason for that documentary would be other than one big fart sniffing project for Nathan. It's probably better off that we don't ever see it.

And in terms of the soundtrack, like I said in the TR general chat, he's full of ****. He has dangled these "remastered soundtracks" over our heads for the past 7 years, he has the MIDI files so it's not like some laborious task for him to remaster them, and yet it's taken this long? Doubt it. He's clearly using it as a bargaining chip for money.

I have such a sour taste in my mouth from him after how the Kickstarter happened, the drama, and the awful fan interactions... no thanks.

I hope someday we get it because the music is incredible and we deserve to have this music, but I just wish we could wash our hands of Nathan at this point.

It's not a surprise...

With his past declaration, behaviours towards the fans, his past workers I'm not surprised Crystal doesn't want to do anything with him now.

I don't see a problem for the documentary.
He could simply release it on Youtube without any fanfare.

I don't think the soundtrack was completed because this year he was still saying that it was a work in progress that he will try to release for Lara's birthday it took him 7 years to do the bare minimum.

I assume tweeting all day long about Trump and conspiracies theories must have filled his schedule.

I assume now he can't use Lara's face or renders for his project so either the next cover is going to be drawn or will be AI illustrated.

But he isn't going to be associated with the name Tomb Raider too so what he's gonna call the album ? Tomb Explorer the Music Experience ?

I think this is going to be the last time we heard of this album. I highly doubt a repackage is in the cards.

Also I wonder does that mean Crystal will be free to use the TR Theme now in future remakes, releases etc ?

Not to excuse anybody’s behaviour, but just because someone has the MIDI files does not mean it’s not an extensive task. The MIDI files would still need to have the correct equipment to replicate, meaning legacy software (old plug-ins etc, probs 32-bit only – very un-2024 friendly) as well as old equipment like old audio cards, external DAWS or synthesisers which he might not have access to and likely don’t work with modern systems either so would require setting up an old system from the era or spending a long time sourcing similar modern set ups which aren’t cheap. One AVID PCIe card can cost £10K easy. I don’t know what set up he’s got, i’ve just seen you bring up the MIDI thing a lot (likely because he did) but it’s not like it’s a clear shot finish line having them.

Anyway it’s a kick in the teeth and very likely there’s been a disagreement of some sort behind the scenes and now it’s being used as leverage against fans for money. I’ve said this before but i’d be looking for a decent payout for being the theme’s creator too, it’s the nature of business and life. Ask the saxophone player from Gerry Rafferty’s ‘Baker Street’ what he got in royalties, it’s the cost of signing a contract. (Life’s no fair)

What i’m really interested in is those 6 year old mints, wonder what they taste like? Yum yum, can have the runs while listening to ‘In The Blood’ crying my documentary promise away.

Selling leftover goodie bags from 2018, huh? What a joke.

Honestly we just need the cutscene and fmv unreleased cues at this point.
