Why Don't The Cheats Work For Me In This Game?

In the Tomb Raider series, there are a lot of cheats such as "Level Skip Cheat", "All Weapons Cheat", etc. I have no problems using the cheats in TR1, TR3, Last Revelation and Chronicles. But in TR2, the cheats don't seem to work for me; attempting the "Level Skip Cheat" or "All Weapons Cheat" always seems to result in me accidentally doing the "Exploding Lara Cheat."

I do exactly as the cheats tell me to do, but I always end up blowing up. I play on the PS and live in the UK. How do you do the "Level Skip Cheat" and "All Weapons Cheat" on this version of TR2?

For what it's worth, I don't need to cheat in order to complete the games; there are some unique things that I would like to try which require the use of such cheats, and that's why I'm enquiring.

There seem to be different codes for the PAL and NTSC versions on the Playstation - and sometimes you need to enter the OTHER one (as per note at the beginning of this section). There's also 'alternative' versions for players that experience exploding Laras. Maybe this helps

I managed to get the cheats to work!

It seems that I must have the NTSC version; it was those cheats that worked for me.

I actually still remember the first time I wanted to use the TR1 all weapons cheat on TR2. Imagine my surprise when instead of all weapons I had Laras body parts all over the screen. I always considered that an easter-egg.

All weapons PC..
While playing, take out a flare, take one step forward, then take one step backwards, turn around 3 full times and then jump backwards.

Exploding Lara PC...
Draw any weapon, then walk one step forward, then one step backwards, turn around in 3 full times then jump backwards.

The following mistake by you or anyone, causes this to happen....
You will notice the the above two cheats are very similar, so if you get it wrong, Lara explodes instead getting all weapons, and you fall off your chair, and your coffee goes everywhere, he he

I think the designers did this deliberately to give you a scare

The 'blow lara up' code is applied to the cheat sequence from TR1. A nice little shock for players in 1997 who tried to use the cheat they knew in the sequel.

I wonder how long it took to discover the flare was needed.

The good old days when cheat codes were actually hard to obtain and you got them from mouth-to-mouth conversations. Now it's just a simple google search...

How the times have changed.
