After replaying the fight with Amanda in Bolivia several times, i came to the conclusion that the creature must be related to the Atlantean mutants. If you take away all the fancy effects and shading (or just play the PSP version), you'll find it looks kinda 'fleshy' up close, not unlike the critters you encounter in TRA.

They hadn't gotten the anniversary remake when they were designing Legend so while that's a good way to fit it into the story, I don't think that was the intention. I'm not sure even Crystal had thought of what it really was at the time. It's supposed to be confusing, scary, and unknown. They didn't mind leaving certain things as 'magic' in their world.

(Yes I know 'sufficiently advanced tech is indistinguishable from magic', but they didn't try very hard to make it grounded. TR1 Atlans wore tech suits and trapped Natla in a very clearly mechanical cryostasis chamber. In their remake they are dressed like ancient fantasy characters and they have Tihocan chant to summon crystals out of thin air.)

Personally I think it's whats left of the queen's shaman after a thousand years guarding the tomb..An intangible mindless monstrosity. And that Amanda would have eventually turned into a similar creature with long enough exposure to the stone.

Yeah he kinda looks like the torso beast with his enlarged ribcage...

This reminds me of the si-fi film 'Forbidden Planet' where alien high tech and the dark sub-conscious mind of a Human, creates a powerful mindless monster from the Id. (Worth seeing the film if you have never seen it).

Nice pic of the ID monster. I've seen "Forbidden Planet" quite a few times, it's absolutely a sci-fi classic. I honestly wouldn't mind if there was a remake that stays close to the original story line.

I wonder the same thing. It is interesting how it chose Amanda's stone to reside in and obey her in Kazakhstan. That is until Lara came along.

Even more mysterious is the fact that it just disappeared after Legend, in Underworld she suddenly has magic powers that allow her to lift stuff and shoot fireballs but no longer can she summon the beast nor is it referenced again (in Legend Zip mentions that Amanda attacked the manor using "black smoke" off-screen so I guess she always had these powers).

Did Lara kill Fluffy in the final fight in Legend?

During Eric Lindstrom's Q&A on the forum i think they mentioned just wanting to show different abilities the stone gave her. I guess since her and fluffy are bonded she is able to use its powers rather than just summon it.

Amanda bonded with Fluffy during the darkest period in her life trapped underground. Maybe when Amanda stole the stone back from Lara her hatred for Lara ruining her plans and killing Rutland allowed her to bond with the stone in a new way unlocking even more of its potential.
