The changing face of TR2013

I am going to be sharing tidbits about how TR2013 has changed since its release more than 11 years ago. My intention is to document the visual changes on this thread – changes which are forgotten or vaguely remembered.

Square Enix Trailers

Personally I don’t remember how this section looked or functioned, and sadly it’s inaccessible nowadays. The localization files indicate there were 3 videos in this section.

Extras/Videos

This section comprised of FMVs, trailers and documentaries. IIRC the FMVs were locked until the player reached a certain progression point in the story. The trailers and documentaries were also locked unless the player downloaded the free Optional Movies DLC. This DLC is no longer available.

Epic Games

In 2021-22, TR2013 received 3 updates to facilitate multiplayer support for Epic Games. You can check out the complete list of patches here for reference.

The game’s versioning disappeared from the launcher in the first 2 patches (829.0 & 838.0). See the difference in the bottom-right corner of the launcher, pictured below.

The third and latest patch (2022) has no versioning in the launcher nor the patch notes.

On the main menu, incorrect pictures and texts are displayed when highlighting the lowest 2 options; START BENCHMARK & QUIT GAME. The latest patch (2022) is pictured below because I’m unable to run 829.0 or 838.0 on my system. My educated guess is the main menu regression started with 829.0.

The Epic patches also caused additional regressions such as misplaced HUD elements. I may cover this topic sometime in the future.

What exactly are we looking at here? I feel like there are supposed to be embedded videos that aren't showing

^ I think OP is embedding pictures from his album, which is set to private, so we can't see them in the actual thread (it happened to me before ). You need to set your albums to public is you want those pictures to be visible when you link them in threads and posts.

I'd like to correct the record for the origin of the main menu bug. When the 829.0 update was rolled out to Steam - a new option was added to the title screen allowing Steam and Epic accounts to be linked together.



In the 838.0 update which came out a month later, the Steam-Epic option was removed. Quoted below is the relevant part of the 838.0 patch notes.

2) If you have previously linked your Steam and Epic accounts the game will not automatically use your linked account. If you wish make use of your linked accounts, please enable the feature from the options menu>>multiplayer.

That's how the main menu bug happened. Someone forgot to ensure the benchmark and quit game options uses the correct pictures, after removing the Steam-Epic option from the title screen.
