No way, I've tried multiple times to get Blender work with this technique, but with no result. I just want to obtain the result in this first image (it's a uvmapped object exported from Metasequoia):

But when I select UV Unwrap and then Lightmap Pack and then I create the new image on the duplicated mesh, I get this ugly result instead:

As you can see, all the textures are messed up. And obviously it remains like this when I bake and I export the .rec and .mqo files.

I don't know where I'm wrong. Moreover, the tutorial is without images now, could someone post them again, please?

Did you do the step of creating a new image for the duplicate mesh?

In the UV Edit space click the drop down where there is image name cow.bmp and see if you have the cut up image there.

The only step missing is the cutting up of the texture to match the new UVs. (Done during baking step)

I'm not sure but I think the problem is that when a mesh is duplicated in Blender it shares its material with the original mesh. You have to make the duplicated mesh have its own material. Not sure where to do this in Blender 2.79 though.

Maybe select duplicate mesh and in Material tab if you can find some button where tooltip says "number of users of material, click for single user", click it so it changes from "2".

In teme's tutorial he created a high poly mesh and low poly mesh so they already probably had their own material. He doesn't mention this because he assumes we would know.

There are pictures for the tutorial in teme's download in this post. First link.

BTW it is possible to use this technique in Blender 2.80 using cycles render so I will post tutorial some time when I work it out.

Thank you! Yes, I've created the new image for the duplicated mesh, but it's all black, so I had to choose the original one from the dropdown menu. Is this one the thing I've made wrong? Anyway thank you for your reply, I'll try again this evening.

Where teme says use "full render" bake, use "textures" unless you have fully lit the scene etc and want all the shadows etc.

In teme's tutorial blend file the material for each mesh is shadeless so that is why he can use full render.

If you haven't lit the scene and use "full render" you get black result from baking.

Yes, I've selected "textures" as it's written in the tutorial, but it's black anyway :

Edit: finally it's working, I've understood its mechanics! I've understood what I did wrong: simply I didn't selected the original mesh first when I was going to do the baking process. Now that I've understood I find it quite simple. I just have to try different configurations for the Lightmap Pack and the margin in the baking process, it's a trial-and-error matter.

thank you sapper
I opened blender for the first time today and I was successful with your tutorial there's a problem thought, I am not able to save in mqo format, as it gives me a lot of error messages when trying to export... might it be because I am using blende 2.81a? (latest version)... edit: the rec export for texture add works fine

It looks like they changed the Python API in 2.81.

I'll post an update soon.

Here is updated release.

https://github.com/sapper-trle/sappe...eases/tag/v2.3

Before installing the update, uninstall my addon.

Go to Edit>Preferences>Addons.
Find my addon in the list in the Import-Export category (make sure Community button is on also).
Expand the panel and click on Remove button.
