I hope it's not Netflix just because they have such a penchant for cancelling things at the flip of a switch. I'm hoping a big studio gets the film and turns it into a blockbuster. It's great to see that there's big interest in the property though.

Least of my worries with any buyer.

Edit: Now it depends on how specific trades are when it comes to reporting but it sounds to me this is only for a Movie and not a series which Crystal Dynamics can dictate in the deal memo.

Edit: if it goes to Netflix then Millie Bobby Brown is your new Lara. Like that's a shoe-in.

Thank God this is finally official. Called it months ago but no one wanted to believe it.

I'd love for Angie to be re-cast as Lara, but I'd also be happy for Alicia to get a chance in a better take. At least Misha Green is finally off the project because she would've just made the work environment toxic like with all her other projects.

A great day for TR fans.

I hope the bidding war doesn't go on for too long, I know in the recent deal with Amazon getting the TV rights to Lord of the Rings they stated they needed to begin production within two years.

Hopefully this is a similar case with a progress to production deal in place to get the ball rolling.

This is so terrible. I’m hoping WB gets the film rights. I have not interest in netflix doing a live action TR so they can provide even worse writing. They’re better at animation which is why i prefer them for the anime. Alicia was so good tho and i I was excited to see what Misha could do I hope they recast Alicia. Misha has worked with Warner before on Lovecraft so maybe it could happen again idk. I don’t want Angelina though. Please just leave that era and let someone else pick up the mantle

I want anyone but Netflix at this point. I guess it all depends on what they do with it but they've yet to impress me with any of the original films they have produced and anything they do seems to just trend for a month or so then be forgotten about pretty quickly like Bird Box.

I hope that a larger film studio will get the rights and make something good with it. With the success of the recent Uncharted film and the upcoming Indiana Jones film IPs are selling well at the cinema and Tomb Raider still is a recognised brand name that can get audiences back to watching films.

Added statement received from Crystal Dynamics here.

Quote:
"We can confirm the movie rights have reverted back to Crystal Dynamics, but we don't have any further comment." Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics said in a statement.

Atleast we are getting official confirmations. My fear is that they push for Netflix because of the series but if they are searching for unity among the franchise then I hope they retain Hayley atleast or campaign for Alicia because of the Live experience if they have any major say.

It all makes sense now. We don't even know what the next step for TR is, or what Unified Lara/TR will be. Crystal don't even know fully yet and are still developing it.

Movies will be a long way off.
