I wouldn't lose my **** if they made her gay but I can definitely live without romance in TR
I played the game recently and didn't get that idea at all. They just seemed like best friends. Even more so when I read that Sam used to keep asking Lara to go out at the clubs and hang out with boys.

Well, if there is a Tomb Raider character that has "definitely bi" written on them is Sam, to be honest.

I think this kind of sexual orientation thing is plain stupid , it's like knowing what religion does she practice, or what's her hand preference, it's unrelevant and I think it's out of focus. I hope it's made for getting some sensationalism as cheap promotion since the saga it's currently out of focus for media, but IDK. When the disussion so far is centered on this kind of things it's discouraging.

Anyhow - there are somw really brutal hot takes in this thread again.
Equalling having a romance arc with porn is really, really far fetched. And it's not to cater to people who have a 'gay fetish' either. It may be there so they can brag with representation, but that's hardly related to fetishes.

At any rate, I hope they rethink this and don't intoduce an explicit romance arc. They can hint one, if they want, but nothing glaringly on-screen.

That's your interpretation and that's cool, I've also seen others saying they didn't even feel like Lara and Sam's friendship was convincing and they acted more like aquaintances than anything deeper. That's also fine. Meagan said during the recent anniversary celebrations that headcanons are important for people to have, and at the end of the day Lara and Sam's relationship being a romantic one is a headcanon.

But that doesn't change the fact that for a lot of people who played the game and saw Lara and Sam's relationship as romantic and that felt like representation to them. It's no different than various people over the years saying that Lara, whether classic or Survivor, has inspired and encouraged them to get through difficult times in their lives with her confidence and badassery and whatnot.

It's also no secret that a huge portion of the fanbase are LGBT and that's been the case for literal years. This is not some "woke trend" thing or whatever. Gay people existed before the late 10s. That doesn't of course mean that just because her fans are gay Lara should be too, but at the same time it wouldn't be such an outlandish thing to happen as some of you may think. Just like how, even though the marketing in the 90s was aimed at straight teenage boys it didn't stop many female gamers to flock to Lara's side.

I also used the term "gay" before as well as in this post as an umbrella term to say "LGBT". They could still be bi. Though that document was to showcase Lara's fascination to archaeology above all else and, if anything, it also shows that she doesn't care about "cute boys" that much lol

That's probably a good reason to not make anything concrete imo. Or to give players a choice. But from what I've seen people want less RPG mechanics in the franchise not more.

If everyone loved Lara Croft originally including gay people, why does she need to suddenly act gay for representation? She doesn't.

Stop with this crap and just make a good TR game. Look at the source material. Why is this so difficult?

This I agree with. It seems like an easy way to get a buzz going around with this game to get clicks and interest in it since they can’t do anything interesting to grab people on their own with the actual game.

No romance/sex. TR doesn't need that at all.

If it ever appears in a TR game, please, keep it exclusive to cutscenes and allow for immediate skipping (unlike with Rise's and -especially- Shadow's loading during a cutscene).
