CD stated they will not bring old code into the new engine. They've said they'll look into the old code, to serve as inspiration to create a whole new one, but that they would not copy from one engine to the other directly

That seems really silly and highly wasteful if they are going to do that. Is there a source for that? Either way, the wait continues lol

It's not wasteful because they want to build from scratch. It was on their UE interview

On when the switch was made to Unreal Engine 5, Executive Producer Ben Irving states the studio "transitioned 15 months ago" and no systems were ported from Foundation Engine. Technical Director Scott Stevens added that the studio had been rewriting code developed in Foundation Engine. "There's been a few things where we've had the Foundation code up side-by-side and we've taken inspiration if there's a specific algorithm we know we want."

They basically want to build a new foundation (no pun intended) for the game. The old egine had a lot of old code all stiched up, if I got it right, and they want to get rid of that

If they really are starting from scratch like this...

And if it'll still be many years before the next game comes out (2026 is my guess)...

Then now, more than the last time, would be the perfect opportunity for them to reboot.

15 months seems like a heck of a long time to deliver whatever needs to be done in terms of coding before ushering in a full-production mode, especially considering that Eidos Sherbrooke and Crystal Northwest are fully focused on delivering technical assistance to the main studios CD and EM.

While I have no idea how long it would take to migrate coding from one engine to the other, considering that developing a game from scratch takes a good 4-5 years, and we know for a fact that TR13 began development at least in January 2022, at least 20-25% of the development should be completed by now, as we approach the end of the year.

Heck, the fact that they were already casting Lara 3-4 months ago is a testament of that progress. That also means that it's likely that the new Lara Croft has already been picked, and has probably already started motion-capture.

Lastly, I really do believe CD capitalized on the Perfect Dark project to streamline their development process on Unreal Engine 5. Whatever was invested in that project will likely serve in parts at least in the development of TR13. I guess the 15 months would be when CD started working on Perfect Dark.

EDIT: The Initiative announced in September 2021 their collaboration with CD, which would match the 15 months timeframe considering they would have been working together for at least a month before announcing it.

Additionally, Crystal is much bigger than before with three studios, plus its sister studio Eidos Montreal, and also do not forget they outsource to Virtuos. And they’ve been hiring a lot

I firmly believe we are getting some kind of tease/reveal next year.
As for new Lara, if Camilla’s gone fingers crossed for Amy Louise Pemberton

I agree. There is something else that is missing but I can't quite put my finger on it. As it looks more like a Lara cosplay.

As long as they don't use Reaper code. Then again I may have been playing to much Mass Effect again.

The demure, somewhat fearful look in her eyes?
