"Did you use walkthroughs when you played tha game?"

As much as I really love TLR, its got some damn janky and/or illogical moments that a walkthrough is kinda needed, especially when you're like 7 when you first play it and don't beat it until you're like 10 .

And with the old Mac OS9 I was playing on, I had to always exit the game to read the walkthrough online .

When I played the Core classics first time through, back in my PlayStation days, I always had a Prima walkthrough booklet close at hand. I'd use it when I got stuck in a level. And I'd also use it to re-play the level as needed if I discovered that I'd passed by a secret.

Being a perfectionist and a hoarder, I simply could not finish a level without collecting all pickups and secrets!

A problem suddenly comes to my mind.
What about the person who wrote the first walkthrough? He essentially finished the game all by himself with 70 secrets and nearly all pickups? It's amazing because so many of us can't do that.

^ Maybe it was a collective effort. Some may have found some secrets while others the rest of them.

Yes, interesting question. The Prima walkthrough booklets I used had Eidos and Core logos on them. I wonder if Prima had an inside line with Core to ensure that all pickups and secrets were covered. But that's just speculationon my part.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, it would be SO great to be able to consult the original Core and Eidos employees here on these forums. Joby Wood and Phil Campbell both made brief appearances here, but they confessed that in some cases, they just could not remember some of the doings back in those days...

iOn my first playthrough - almost 15 years ago now - yes I used a walkthrough for the first level with the burning floor tiles. I think I had it about 75% correct, but needed a bit of an assist from Stella's online walkthrough to get across the last tile or two.

I've replayed it dozens of times over the years, and i never grow tired of it.

Had to use one on the train because I didn't know Lara could hang over the edge of the train car. I thought her feet would touch the ground and she'd fall off and die.

Had to use one for every bit of Cairo and all the levels after it.

Oh yes, I finished the game, those were just the areas where I used the guide on my first play through. Also upon posting this I saw I already wrote a response to this on the first page of this thread. Don't know how I managed to miss that.
