The same thing happened with the bsckstage door level entrance. She had the key but she opened the door without it.

Yes, that's intentional. This particular door unfortunately is unable to have the key turning animation applied to it without issues, so it behaves the same way locked doors do in the vanilla game. The key is still removed when you open the door though, same as vanilla.

And yes, the extra key has always been there too even in vanilla.
