BloodRayne: The Shroud might've been cancelled/"put on hold" due to the poor reception of Betrayal, but let's be honest - it was a 3DS game, and I sincerely doubt it would've done much better under those constraints.

They've already said there's more coming, anyway. That was before this got announced, but I don't think they'd buy the IP just to put out a couple of remasters and have that be it...

It's no secret Betrayal was poorly received, and they wouldn't hinge the future of the franchise on a remaster of an underperforming entry. I firmly believe they're doing this in the interest of completion/preservation only.

Of course, if this remaster somehow ends up doing much better than the original, there'll be more incentive to make a sequel, but I'm certain that intent was already there.

Here are the improvements in this "remaster":

-Addition of voice acting(Best new feature imo)
-Bug fixes
-Higher resolution and better graphics.
-Additiomal Easier difficulty settings.

I guess I might give this game another try.

Maybe this time the game performs better due to the popularity of 2D games these days.(And these improvements make the game better)

the (bad) 2D slash-em-up Bloodrayne Betrayal just got remastered.

More graphics options, new voice acting, same bad gameplay.

And speaking of voice acting... Rayne was Laura Bailey's first ever role in a console game

I had no idea that was her

Very cool! Will these just be console ports of the Terminal Cuts, do you think?

A part of me hopes they pick up Nocturne too, that needs a re-release.

Same with the weird Blair Witch Trilogy of games that tied into Nocturne. (Terminal Reality had their game in the trilogy involve spookhouse investigating the area and you got to play as Doc Holiday.)
