Probably I shouldn't insist, but I still don't understand why you replaced the original soundtrack with the rerendered one. What's wrong with the original one?

From a TR fan to a TR fan: I hope you consider rolling back that change.
Thanks for your time.

hope so
there's no extracting the .bin from the installer that I can see
so for some instructions (not for you, but for anyone that may care for a little guide) imho what one would patiently have to do if one should want to try both soundtracks is "only" this:

run the 1.7.1 installer
rename the brand new \tombraider folder to tombraider171 or whatever
run 1.7.2 as well (btw whatever options you picked like nGlide and stuff, better follow suit to be consistent)
to be on the safe side (not really needed) rename this one too, to tombraider172
now you have 2 different tombeng.bin & 2 different tombeng.cue files there right?
having 2 different installations takes 1.2 GB or so of precious space besides it will have the shortcuts flawlessly go berserk so my advice is

copy \tombraider171\tombeng.bin and \tombraider171\tombeng.cue outside their original folders wherever you like and rename them to tombeng171.bin and tombeng171.cue
same goes for \tombraider172

so there are now 4 backup files in store:
tombeng171.bin
tombeng171.cue
tombeng172.bin
tombeng172.cue
now you can get rid of either \tombraider171 OR \tombraider172 folder
the one you keep rename to just tombraider
(almost there)

suppose you kept 1.7.1 and renamed to tombraider
now your v1.7.1 (no rerendered soundtrack) is ready to go

but now don't I know you, you'd like to try Tomekkobialka's wouldn't you
take tombeng172.bin and tombeng172.cue and copy (not move!) to tombraider
rename them to tombeng.bin and tombeng.cue overwriting of course the 1.7.1 ones (or delete current tombeng.* first)
1.7.2 rerendered soundtrack ready!

still with me?

want to get back to 1.7.1?
same routine reversed:
take tombeng171.bin and tombeng171.cue and copy (not move) to tombraider
rename them to tombeng.bin and tombeng.cue overwriting/deleting of course the 1.7.2 ones

want to automate the whole darn procedure?
here's when some batch script comes in handy!
suppose you placed your backup files in c:\backup
write down a little batch routine that may look something like:
Code:
::Use v1.7.2 rerendered soundtrack
cd\
cd backup
copy tombeng172.* c:\tombraider
cd\
cd tombraider
del tombeng.*
ren tombeng172.bin tombeng.bin
ren tombeng172.cue tombeng.cue
and name it "Use 1.7.2 rerendered soundtrack.bat" or whatever

return to 1.7.1 will you? then let it be
Code:
::Use v1.7.1 not-rerendered soundtrack
cd\
cd backup
copy tombeng171.* c:\tombraider
cd\
cd tombraider
del tombeng.*
ren tombeng171.bin tombeng.bin
ren tombeng171.cue tombeng.cue
here comes one "Use 1.7.1 not rerendered soundtrack.bat"

there may be so many more ways to do it, but this is the first one that crossed my mind

nothing at all is wrong, I just felt like offering Tomekkobialka's work

why yes I'm just going to
I'm not undoing it though
as I wrote I'm going to make v1.7.1 still available beside the 1.7.2 setup @ tombraiderhub.com so you can have your choice what to download and use between them or both
isn't that right?

I think I'll just stick to installing 1.7.1 on a different PC and copying the image file over to my computer. I don't want to mess up current game install, especially nGlide, which only now seems to work at last.

According to the changelog, "Last Secret Fixer by Suikaze Raider" is a new feature on 1.7.2, so we miss that one if we stich to 1.7.1. We'd have to install that fix separately

that's right, otherwise you see this was to break the version numbering
as shown here anyway (look up the Post Scriptum) for what it's worth I gave a quick guide to implement the fix on the fly.

The fix for the last secret seems pretty easy to perform judging by the guide under the link, especially that CDMage is a freeware tool.

I felt it was the right time to overhaul the latest TR1 installer versions.
In practice I made a new v1.7.3 with every feature and "default" psx audio tracks but without Tomekkobialka's rerendered soundtrack.
This 1.7.3 update I hopefully view as a "final" release.

Download link
Tombraiderhub.com page:
http://www.tombraiderhub.com/guides/...ced-installer/

For the changelog see post #1 in this thread on page 1 or else the updated pdf included in the 1.7.3 zip

--------------------------------

Yet I was also keen on keeping Tomekkobialka's rerendered alternate tunes available, at least as an option linked to the installer, so while I was at it I thought I'd also make a standalone application optionally and reversibly switching rerendered for plain psx tracks and viceversa and make it a no hassle install/uninstall 2 way tool that lets players try the alternate sounds and get back to default with one interface and a single click. I think this screenshot says it all:

I figure this as sort of a bonus beside 1.7.3.1

Download link - TR1 Rerendered Soundtrack installer setup version 1.3
http://dl.tombraiderhub.com/tomb-rai...setup-v1.3.zip
Please note: for this setup to work. the full 1.7.3.1 installer has to be applied in advance.
More info and a tip quoting from the attached readme I wrote:

Quote:
the way this install/uninstall switch works, I guess just like 110% of file swapping routine scripts in the world, that is via a fleeting go-between, the order of the 2 processes can't be fooled with scot-free
in other words, suppose you took a shot at the rerendered soundtrack and uninstalled afterwards, then one minute or day or century later you feel like having another go at it but can't for the life of you remember if it had been properly uninstalled or not so God only knows the state it is in now
now imagine you mistakenly try installing twice in a row, or uninstalling twice, which is just the same, or even try uninstalling without ever installing first, which is cause for still another kind of troublemaking, now all of these blunders each its own way won't go down without making a mess of it hence I made sure a warning message will pop up in such cases
Finally, if the whole gizmo falls apart and you're stuck, no course of action will do any better than
- delete everything in c:\tombraider
- restart from scratch running the 1.7.3.1 installer first, then the rerendered soundtrack install application again.

Version history:

v1.3 - March 13, 2015: rewriting and streamlining of uninstall script
v1.2 - March 6, 2015: refurbishment of warning/error messages layout
v1.1 - February 25, 2015: fixed horrible bug hidden in uninstall routine
v1.0 - February 23, 2015: first working draft

Great update, I love having the old music for nostalgia reasons. Sorry

Would any of you know by chance how to get steam to open up this version of Tomb Raider instead of the crappy default Steam version? I dont want to make a shortcut I want to specifically be able to open the Tomb Raider 1 app I bought from Steam and have it open your version of the game.

Thanks for your time

Minor update to v1.2 for the standalone TR1 Rerendered Soundtrack installer setup.
Please remember that the full 1.7.3 setup still has to be installed in advance for this thing however "standalone" to work.
Tombraiderhub reference:
http://www.tombraiderhub.com/guides/...staller/#64bit

Version history thereof:
v1.2 - March 6, 2015: refurbishment of warning/error messages layout
v1.1 - February 25, 2015: fixed horrible bug hidden in uninstall routine
v1.0 - February 23, 2015: first working draft
