Honestly, in my opinion, Lara goes to other games = the game attracts Tomb Raider fans as new players, characters from other games come to Tomb Raider = Tomb Raider tries to attract fans of other franchises. So I didn't think it was attracting other fans at first.

I think it's also a bit backwards if what they want is to pique the interest of people outside the fandom. Tomb Raider 12 isn't out yet and won't be for quite a while. Let's say a Fortnite player absolutely loves Lara's Anniversary skin and decides to play Anniversary. I just don't see how such a vastly different game becoming a staple in their gaming library. Maybe a Call of Duty player will enjoy the Survivor trilogy's combat and multiplayer, but I'm not sure how they'd feel about the rest + the highly cinematic approach.

It's the games they chose to collaborate with that confuse me. You'd have to be a very open-minded gamer whose taste ranges a lot to come from Call of Duty and enjoy Tomb Raider games.
