Not an ex employee. The guy who commited the arson turned himself in. He was a 40 year old man who accused the company of plagiarism. He was screaming something along the lines of "You theives!".

Maybe he was a rejected animator.

I see, thanks for the info.
Whatever the reason is, the guy seriously has major issues if killing 30+ workers (innocent people) was his sense of ‘justice’.

I'm fairly certain it's still mental health issues that are the underlying cause. Whatever narrative he invented in his mind that somehow made him do that is probably just a symptom of whatever illness he has. Or in other words: He's probably crazy for thinking that he got ripped off, and he's definitely crazy for committing this horrific act of violence.

Yeah, but im surprised to be honest that we dont hear stuff like that in japan more often.
The pressure is high on people in japan with work, family, money etc.
That not more people break under that is a wonder.

Not into anime, but I heard about this.

I guess we'll find out more about why the nutter did this as the days go by.

It's so shocking and sad. May those who died Rest In Peace and those who injured recover quickly. Though I expect the mental scars will by far last longer than physical ones. .

The suicide rate is pretty high from what I've heard, so yeah people there do crack.

That said, it is a very disciplined culture where people seem to have high standards of moral behaviour generally (contrary to what the more crazy animes might have people believe), which is what keeps violent crime rates low I guess. That and Japan has also remained fairly consistently stable economically/socially. Violence and poverty are strongly correlated, where there's not much poverty there's not much violence.
