Default Game of the year / decade

As we approach 2020 I thought it'd be interesting to hear if anyone has a game of the year and / or game or the decade. Or even.... game of the year for each year of the past decade.

My game of the decade is........

TLOU.

When I first played this, I thought it was another Uncharted and that didn't really interest me at the time. I didn't want to play another non-stop shoot-athon, so I put it aside for year. When I came back I realised that it wasn't UC, it was it's own thing - at times a stealthy, survival horror-esque adventure and I loved this. It is the gameplay that I like the most about this game. I loved the awful thrill of creeping up to clickers (who I still find terrifying), with a life-cycle that made biological sense (for the most part), which grounded the reality of the "infected".

The other parts I really loved were the characters Joel and Ellie, but also the amazing supports, who were all well acted. And I liked that we travelled over the whole country, slowly, over a year, meeting people and having some story arcs with them before moving on. I liked that I didn't know what was going to happen next or who we might meet next.... Bill, Sam and Henry, giraffes, and that none of the environments felt generic or just scenery to run past.

Other games over the last decade that I think are standouts (in no particular order):

- Lost Legacy
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Bloodborne
- Persona 5
- Uncharted 4
- The Witness
- Skyrim
- Dragon's Dogma
- Dragon Age Inquisition
- Detroit Become Human

It's been a good decade for gaming, I think.

My game of 2019 is Resident Evil 2 remake. A glorious return to old-style survival horror.

Good idea for a topic! I will breakdown my list by best game by each year of this decade. Hopefully I have the right year for some of these games since I don't remember the early 2010's as much.

2010 - Bayonetta
2011 - Pokemon Black
2012 - (Will need to comeback and think about this one)
2013 - Tomb Raider 2013
2014 - The Evil Within
2015 - Bloodbourne
2017 - Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2018 - Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
2019 - Resident Evil 2 Remake

2017 was definitely the best year for me - Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Evil Within 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Resident Evil 7, Pokemon Sun & Moon... it was hard to pick one game for that year.

My stand-outs in different genres are: TLOU, Uncharted 4, God of War, Ni no Kuni, Stardew Valley, GTAV, Dishonored, Detroid Become Human, Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, Apex Legends.

Technically the decade starts at 2021, so 2010 wouldn't count and we still have one more year to go

It's a pity that two of my fav sagas have decreased a lot this decade with disappointment after disappointment, but I must mention FF13 and KHBBS too.

Yes, technically. But in practice not really otherwise we wouldn't have such expressions as the fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties, etc. The usual practice, the one used by virtually everyone, is to have each decade from the zero to the 9.

Devil May Cry 5

Fun to play from start to finish. No forced slow walks, no unskipable cutscenes, no pretentious story.

My games of the year 2019 belong to Capcom: Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5.
Especially DMC, because DMC IS BACK! And so is my Nero

For the decade, Red Dead Redemption 2, for obvious reasons. Such an adventure and it is, atleast in my experience, extremely polished.
Then I have to say Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, never had so much fun in an AC game and I love the Frye twins to death.
Up next is Uncharted 4, the campaign was super fun and exciting, but the real fun for me is the multiplayer that still keeps me getting back into the game.
Dragon Age: Inquisition, been playing the game to death since 2015 and just about to start my 100000th playthrough.
Keeping up with the fantasy genre, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, of course. Nothing else need to be said than the name of the game.
