I'm referring more to his looks. That aspect of him is kinda messy, disheveled, average. Not really superhero material. (Stereotype teen hardcore gamer in that era). But then he's magical, dangerous, and portrayed as someone who can handle himself around Lara. (The male gamer who really is special and who Lara is attracted to). Why else would CORE portrayed him with this type of appearance? On looks alone, he's not really superhero, badass material; but then he is because of his powers, his dark character, and he's dangerous.

Classic Lara's body-type was created to appeal to teen males and young men. Then, they created Kurtis who had physical elements of a lot of gamer-type males during the era.

I actually liked the idea of Kurtis but he obviously needed a lot more work. I have a feeling CORE spending so much time trying to develop him (they had plans to possibly give him his own game, I think), that it was a contributing factor to their inability to pull AOD together as a finished product, ending in their unfortunate downfall.
yes beth! this is 100% my feelings on kurtis thank you for saying it so succinctly

I don't really like Kurtis and Lara together, though I don't hate Kurtis himself (that gay bf angle makes him slightly more appealing in my eyes, not gonna lie) My two reasons are: Looking at the treatment of Lara's character at the time, putting her in a relationship with a man was always going to feel wrong. It wouldn't be an interesting exploration of her character and how she would react to being close to someone like that. And two, there is no substance in the game. It baffles me how this ship got off the ground because there really is nothing there. And Kurtis isn't exactly the most interesting or attractive character in the world (though I don't think he's ugly at all) so it really does feel like they could have put any white man beside Lara and people would have ran with it.

that was pretty much my thought on the ship at first. i kind of like the idea of it post-series but they definitely needed to build them up more in-game. there is a way to do subtleties and core weren't up to the task
