Default House of the Dragon (GOT prequel)

HBO series due to be released sometime in 2022

The story of the House Targaryen set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones

Production is underway but no release date yet.

Is anyone interested / looking forward to this?

I'll be honest my enthusiasm after season 8 of GOT is not great. Also, I'm not sure that I'm that interested in knowing the ins and outs of the Targaryens and a bunch of dragons fighting each other.

What made GOT special for me was that there was a sense of a special period in history occuring where magic was re-awakening, dragons being reborn after hundreds of years of them disappearing, of new 3-eyed ravens being made, the last remnants of children of the forest discovered and white walkers returning after thousands of years. Everything building slowly towards an interconnected climax where the whole of mankind was going to have to come together to fight for its existence.

So I don't know how I feel about this. But since it is being made and will air next year, I think will watch the first few episodes and take it from there.

If it comes to Now, I might be persuaded to pay the subscription fee whilst it's on. I haven't read this part of the story in Fire and Blood yet, but I find the whole lore of Westeros fascinating. Yes, S8 and to a lesser extent S7 were a disappointing end to GoT, but the rest of series was so good. Plus this series doesn't have the same people behind it and the story is already complete, so they have GRRM's work to follow. I'm optimistic.

I think it will be good. They have completed source material now.

In a way I hope it all takes off again as it was fun discussing it with everyone. Although mostly I'm still hoping for Winds of Winter book. Come on, George.

I was going to get the Fire and Blood book but I've heard it's not the same as A Song of Fire and Ice and is quite difficult to get through in places.

I won't get it now anyway as I don't want to spoil myself for the new series just in case, but that did put me off.

Yeah, Fire and Blood is good, but it's not a story like ASoIaF is. It's more of a detailed historical account, if that makes sense. The chapters are quite long, which for me meant finding a suitable place in which to stop, and it can be difficult to pick up again if you take a break.
