Best give more info on this one.

It's best recommended when loading a fresh TR game to run it's setup window first to confirm resolution etc.

Does anyone know why my controls just stop working after a few minutes into the game? Lara just start doing stuff on her own. It's really frustrating to even play this.

TRC (original exe) is known to be extremely fickle with controllers - back then I returned 3 or 4 controllers until another one finally worked.
I don't know anything that can be done about that. Right now I have a Logitech F710 and also with this one Lara will do things on her own all the time (with TRC custom levels.)

edit: to say you do not even need to use the controller, just it being plugged can be enough for the game to go crazy.

I find with my win10 and likely on win11 that screen resolution is critical for TR4 and TR5 games.

If you go too high with the resolution, the game crashes, and its comes up with a small window saying 'directx has failed'

The main thing is to have a setup exe (as mentioned by others on here), then when the setup window comes up, select a reasonable sized resolution.

I tend to use 1024x768, works every time, but you could try a bit higher resolution if you want to.

I always choose 1280x960, because there will be no white vertical stripes in the inventory screen when the width is a multiple of 640.
