While poorly executed with so many missed opportunities, there are a lot of ideas behind the 2013 game that I do like as an origins story. So while it might not have been the most "Tomb Raider-y" game, I can see the direction they were going for and can enjoy it. The character was no more recogniseable as Lara than the 2013 one was, and it looked like she wasn't growing any more, in fact she bored and irritated me with how she spoke and just her overall persona. The story was even more trite than 2013. I was worn out by that point.

The exclusivity deal did leave a bitter taste in my mouth too, although I don't let that affect my judgment of the game itself.

Completely, totally, 100% agree with this. That’s exactly how I felt too.

It's a matter of patience. I think the reboot backlash could be attributed to the devs blue balling us. I can only hear "becoming who she's meant to be" so many times

I think it would clear things up if they told us that this is a different Lara, don't expect her to morph into her older self.
