Tomb Raider Live: The Experience:

☕️ Spoke to one of the front of house staff beforehand who had spoken with the writer for this; he said that the story and everything about the Tomb Raider Live Experience IS meant to be part of the Tomb Raider canon going forward. (1/4)

So the bullcrap rumor about Lara being a teacher is real. This next game needs to fail.

Eh, I don't really mind. It doesn't feel so far off from a natural progression of the character to be quite honest. Lara has always written about her experiences, so she's always been open to share her knowledge/adventures with others. Sharing that knowledge in the way of teaching isn't too far off.

And I mean, they want to innovate, they want to explore different facets of Lara and go into tropes TR has never approached, I don't see this as a bad thing. One of TR's charms has always been variety (just look at the amount of locations and outfits in TRs 1-5), and Core has made it obvious since TR4 that they were never shy of exploring different sides to Lara and expanding on her character and experiences by showing us her inner circle, Lara making mistakes, introducing a love interest, etc. They wanted to explore and flesh out Lara's character more and more. Lara becoming a mentor honestly doesn't feel like something Core wouldn't have considered eventually if they had kept TR after AOD (and its trilogy).

I remember a thread once that asked "what would you imagine Classic Lara would be doing now in her 50's?" and a good chunk of replies was that they imagined Lara either still tomb raiding or passing along her knowledge in lectures and teaching at a university. So it's definitely not only CD that thinks that Lara evolving into a mentor to younger raiders/archaeologists is something that would happen.

The Live Experience now supposedly being canon to the TR timeline further reinforces the leak of the next game being completely true. Interesting

I find it strange that they have decided to go back into her past, just to re-age her after just 3 games.. I guess there could be a possibility that the games won't take place in chronological order anymore. Maybe the upcoming game will feature a Lara in her 40's, and the one after will show her adventuring in the her 30's.

Again this thought just popped in my head. We basically don't even know anything about the future of the series. But if indeed the Live experience is connected to the future, we have some sort of vision of what they have in store.

They already said that the next game takes place after all existing games.

Still, this mentality that every game has happened 1 year after the other has to stop. Putting dates on her birth and on her adventures all leads to confusion. Get rid of it already.

She could have 10 adventures during 1 year and still be in her late 20s.

Exactly, it's not like the games span more than a week. She rests and recovers for the rest of the year? I would think Lara would would be a person constantly on the go.

On the other hand it leaves rooms for potential in between games later on like the gold games.

I disagree with your issue about having a timeline.

The classics had dates and a proper timeline for everything, and they still managed to fit in side stories and spin offs within that. While there may not be explicit dates for the games such as Curse of the Sword, it's still easy to fit it just about anywhere in the classic timeline.

Putting dates isn't the issue with her only having one adventure per year. Them choosing for those adventures to only happen once per year is the issue.

Further confusion came because Crystal changed the timeline (twice!), which they didn't have to do and really served no purpose.

Having a timeline is never an issue if the timeline has had an iota of thought put into it.

^ And it was he right decision to ditch dates/years. I mean Lara would be 54 today, she'd be closer to 60 than 50 by the time the next game releases.

CD has said since 2011 that the reboot completely discards dates and has a floating timeline, precisely because they know TR is a franchise that is here to span decades, which it has so far and probably will continue to do in the future.

If they were to keep dates they'd either have to fixate the games being set in the 90's/00's and we'd never see Lara make use of recent tech to progress or they would have to end the franchise.

People also seem to forget there's roughly 7 "dark years" in classic Lara's past that we know nothing about.

If she was born in 1968, and 16 in 1984 when the Cambodia and Ireland adventures happen, she had her Himalayan plane crash at age 21 so that would've been 1989.

After this, she decides to start her life/career as an intrepid adventurer and all we know from the bio is that she became famous discovering things and writing travel books. Natla doesn't contact her until 1996 for TR1.

So this means there are roughly 7-8 years in the timeline from Lara's plane crash "turning point" to the events of TR1 that have never been explored. We can assume the TR5 Rome adventure happens sometime in that period, she finds the Ark of Covenant, and she stamps out Bigfoot. But we know nothing else.

Crystal never had to rewrite or reboot the timeline... they could've worked within the given limits and simply rebooted by expanding on Lara's early years after the plane crash (or even younger years before the crash) and there would've been enough story material to milk for ages.
