Classic:
Music
Vehicles
Less serious story lines
Lara's attitude & personality
Level design (no more hubs please!)
Dual Pistols
Little involvement with parents

LAU:
Boss fights
Puzzles

Reboot:
**Sam**, Jonah and Reyes (and Kaz if you read the comics)
Deity-like figures (Himiko)
Ax and Bow (maybe crossbow like in TR4?)
Lara's journals & journals she finds
Examine artifacts

Classics:

Lara's self confidence and "in control" atitude
Dual Pistols and Backpack
Variety of Puzzles (environmental, physics based, lever based, time based, actually puzzle or game like)
Gameplay consistency (everything that looks climbable is, jump distances matter and are consistent, stuff like that)
More methodical (as in having to stop and think before acting) gameplay
Meaningful exploration (needing to explore an area to kind a key/lever that opens a door elsewhere)

LAU:

Lara's wit.
The tone of the stories (especially TRL's)
Fast paced and fluid movement, especially in combat
Relics that add something gameplaywise if found
Puzzle-like boss battles

Reboot:

Lara's love for archaeology and nerdiness that shows
Physically vulnerable Lara (that combined with what I want from the Classics and LAU would make her feel more impressive and inspiring)
Climbing Axes
Hubs (but more like the ones in TReboot, where they are small enough to make exploration meaningful and rewarding)
Challenge Tombs (but truly hidden this time)
Crypts (especially like in SotTR)
Clear Real World Mythology that contributes to the worldbuilding
Environmental Storytelling (but much more expanded)
Tribal mandatory outfits to be used for most of the game. Jk jk, obviously :P

Hmm interesting Idea. I may have to add a short explanation.

Reboot Timeline

Lara's looks and personality (with a little more light-hearted humour, like the comics)
Keep a certain amount of vulnerability
Hub spaces - The hubs could do with having more involvement in story-missions.
Camps - Work well as saving points + a way to go through inventories and outfits.
Axe and bow (just one axe)
Combat and stealth systems - style, keep Shadow's amount.
Lara's archaeological and history knowledge, including relic descriptions
Murals
Optional tombs and crypts and make these the only places to find relics and lets see the relics.

LAU Timeline

Some moves, such as pole balancing and swings

Core Timeline

Temple/Tomb design, involving multiple levels and rooms
Some moves such as monkey bars and crawl
Isolation.
Honestly, I think I'd like a return of a plait.

Mix

Puzzles. I'd like a mixture of item finding, levers (which we have anyhoo) environmental and physics based.

Classics:
-Platforming controls
-Level design
-Gameplay ratio/mix (lots of platforming/puzzles/exploration, little bit of combat)
-Swimming/diving controls
-Lara's TR1-3 bio
-Lara's TR4-6 characterisation
-Lara's face/hairstyle from AoD
-Lara's height
-AoD's branched dialogues and adventure elements
-colourful lighting
-AoD's narrative tone and quality (but possibly a bit more light-hearted)
-Traps
-Death animations

LAU:
-Time trial modes?
-Possibly the grapple? But make it a normal rope, not some tacky high-tech gadget.

Reboot:
-Lara's outfits being more practical
-Possibly hubs
-Maybe Roth?
-The Himiko backstory from TR2013

Ideally, she'd look like Core Lara and have her backstory and looks, but have Top Cow Lara's personality and character. Dual pistols (no infinite ammo) and backpack (Or a satchel like RotTR or SotTR's) would be there.

I'd blend various friends from the series to be her companions. Winston, Charles Kane, Anaya, Werner or Roth, Sam, maybe Vanessa Fenway and/or Jane, perhaps Alister so long as he didn't live in the manor.

It'd have the Legend Trilogy's acrobatics.

And it'd bring in the crafting elements from the Survivor Trilogy.

She'd have no more than 3 weapons, for realism's sake: a big gun, which can be traded in and out like in Legend; a crossbow (Replacing the bow from Survivor); and the pistols.

I'd also like to bring in the climbing axes, but I'm not sure how that'd work unless she had one on each side, behind her pistols.

It would also have an All-Stars Endurance mode, where you can play as any of Lara in any of her main outfits in the series, or one of the important characters (Be they friend or foe). So you could play as Larson (TR:C and TR:A), Amanda, Kurtis, Jean-Yves, etc. Older games' characters would work like the Classic Skins in RotTR/SotTR.

Oh, and Chapter Replay is a must as well.

Gameplay itself would be a good balance of combat and puzzles, kind of like a blend of Underworld and Rise, I guess?

  • Tonal mix of camp and seriousness
  • Eerie atmosphere
  • Precision based platforming
  • Lara’s main theme

  • Some moves, such as pole balancing and swings (Thanks Rai! I was really struggling to pick something from LAU )

Reboot:
  • Lara's passion for history/archaeology
  • Manual Combat (though its execution could do with some work) + stealth
  • SOTTR's Croft Manor
  • Examinable artifacts
  • SOTTR's Crypts
  • SOTTR's Monolith Riddles (but make them lead to something more interesting)
  • SOTTR's difficulty options

I mostly agree with this and I'm just going to quote it instead of making my own full list.

I would add;

- A mix of classical/LAU mechanical puzzles and Reboot physics-based puzzles
- The classic games' diversity of enemy encounters, and soft-horror twists usually towards the end of the game
- Globetrotting... but more in the way TR2 did it, where it was broken up with un-even amounts of time spent in different places. The way TR1 and TR3 did it, where she'd go for a very formulaic even amount of time spent in each location, it felt forced and in-organic. I also didn't like the Legend and Underworld method of having several very short levels in many different countries, keep it 2-5 maximum.
- Vehicles
- Animations more like Legend and Anniversary (although the standing pose looked a little silly to me), including acrobatics
- Optional crypts and tombs from the Reboot, with unlockables like outfits and weapons for completing them. Yes I actually like the idea of totally optional side areas, as long as it doesn't take away from the tomb elements and difficulty along the main path.
- Shadow's difficulty options

Classic:

- Key items. Actual keys, statues, effigies, anything collectable for use elsewhere to progress.

- Environment interactivity. Levers, pushable objects, keyholes, etc.

- Intricate level design, designed for backtracking. Interconnected levels, too, like TR4. They could do this so seamlessly now.

- Focus on wildlife encounters.

- Stylised tombs and surreal enemies.

- Iconography. Dual pistols, braid, backpack, shorts.

- Raiding for sport.

LAU:

- Quality of writing from Legend. Still the best written game in the series, imo. The dialogue is sharp, quotable and memorable.

- An extensive moveset like Underworld's, with a focus on acrobatics.

- A secret system like Anniversary's. A special kind of collectable is added to Croft Manor whenever you find it, and a bonus feature of some kind is unlocked for doing so.

Reboot:

- Optional challenge tombs in conjunction with the mandatory ones. I'm convinced it can be done well.

- Tombs and crypts rewarding you with in-game bonuses. A new ability, weapon or upgrade. Crypts in general.

- Lara resembling her TR13 render/CGI counterpart. Sharp features, intense eyes, dressed and fit like in Shadow.

- Ascension's mood and supernatural focus.

- Relics, examining objects.
