Eidos Montréal new game may be an open world with 3D puzzles and parkour
https://reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/s/7O3xkdT88l
Someone looked at the job listing pages from Eidos Montréal website and found hints of what their next game could be. They're working at the moment of an untitled new IP. It's apparently open world, will feature villages with NPCs, parkour platforming and 3D puzzles. Really sounds like Shadow of the Tomb Raider but in an open world. Very interested to see the announcement of this game ! Last edited by Chamayoo; 15-10-23 at 17:26. |

There have been other posts describing that the next new Tomb Raider title will have multiple protagonists, and these multiple protagonists would probably have a path or assault courses of their own.
Perhaps this is in sync with the foreshadowing on a job hunting page. Open world is not very common for a Tomb Raider as linear gameplay (from quest to goal) is usually how the gameplay feels. Open world would suggest that you could directly walk to the end corners of the playable map, if you wanted to, and look there just to have a look. There are computer games who place your playable character in the centre of the playable map, and will just let you choose your own direction. Endurance mode is something similar like that. The actual game is probably linear and set by constraints and limits to restrict your progress until you've completed the quest or level to continue. For open world to work, all quests and all missions or levels must be "side quests" or optional levels. And they've tried this with Tomb Raider 2013 to make all Tombs optional. But the story was the only way to progress and so the progression still became linear. (That the story had a completion rate). So the naming to the Tombs being optional upset the fans, not that they are optional. What you want to do is study your ant, or your player, and see why they've chosen to walk in a certain direction. And this can become beautiful once you understand why the player chooses that direction because now you have demographic factors that will inform you about your audience interests discovered by play data. And you can make them more happy because you've learnt that this direction made the player happy. A study for your audience. Open world. |
