Alternatively, try switching to modern controls. They work really well 95% of the time and and are more intuitive for new players. But in some segments they can lack precision and be frustrating especially when the camera switches to fix angles. Ideally, a hybrid control scheme would allow us to have both options (modern movements mapped to the sticks, tank on the D-PAD) but the devs seem to have chosen to not provide this choice, or some technical limitation is stopping them from being able to do so within their budget-time costrains. PC players can perhaps hope for a mod implementing this option. IMHO it would be the perfect control scheme to play these games. Last edited by canesalato; 07-11-24 at 01:24. |

Gotta admit, Modern Controls are growing on me. I had given up the games shortly after release because the controls were causing a ton of frustration: I can't do Tank controls anymore with a gamepad because my left thumb cramps and locks up nowadays and I'm too smoothly lizard brained to learn Mouse/Keyboard.
(You have to understand I played the games entirely on PS1, so playing it on PC here is a first for me) But they've made some major improvements to it since then. I think it's working better with Xinput controllers like the 8bitdo (which I primarily use for Warframe due to it having paddles for the thumbstick buttons) but maaaaaaaybe it's better with an official Xbox/PC one from MS? idk. Either way, I ran a couple levels in TR1 last night with them (Vilcabamba to Lost Valley) and it's getting to be a much smoother experience. Might not ever go back to tank controls, honestly. Except, yanno, it's still a PITA to do backflips. ... But we'll see if I still feel that way as I get deeper into TR2 and 3 with additional actions. .~. Last edited by Finlaena; 08-11-24 at 17:01. |

Modern controls are great, they finetuned them a lot over the last few patches and it's just a joy to play with it. Also not sure if it's new or not, but now you can do a running jump the exact same way you did in the classics > walk to the edge > tap backwards > press and hold jump. Back in patch 3 I was just twirling and hoping for the best lol.
I'd love a shortcut for medipacks as well, something like inventory button + D pad left/right. BTW does anyone know if there is a way to get out of a crawlspace without flipping forward? Admit I died a few times because of this lol Opening up the inventory to switch control schemes is a little tiring. |

Yes sir, while crawling, pressing walk makes Lara do tank-style turns/animations, but still camera based

Modern controls have made a significant improvement, even more with patch 4. I just beat TR1 with modern controls.
Some areas though I still prefer tank controls. What I would like to see is a hybrid of the two. D-Pad for tank and analogue stick for modern. |
