This "unification" becomes a bigger cluster**** the more you try to match everything up.
There is no unification. It is just in the heads of some Survivor fans.

The VCI are located in New York though, so the local date format is the American one.

This timeline is also from some 'official' publication. It places the VCI events at 1997 after the Golden Mask and before TR3.

It's a complete mess, and I don't think Crystal will ever bother explaining it.
They will keep the timeline as vague as possible, because it's impossible to make sense of the changing technology at Lara's disposal through the games and the TR4 ingame dates.
It would be far better if they just unified Lara's different aesthetics and personalities, even though imo that is impossible as well.

^ It doesn't matter about the real place. Tomb Raider always uses UK format. For example, the motorcycle of TR4 in Cairo. In Egypt vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road, but the motorcycle is designed to drive on the left-hand side of the road, which is the UK format.

Also, the unified timeline is very bad. There are 114 known elements in 1998, so the mysterious element is called Element 115. But the real chemical element 115 was discovered in 2010, so TR3 should not be after 2010.

Thought to note, a trailer claimed VCI occurred in 1995.

Hmm YouTube embed deciding not to work for me

...yet it also claims Ireland was in 1979 - meaning an 11 year old Lara

^ I think those years counting down are just meant to be a cool "we are going back to the past" effect. Otherwise, wtf?

They land on specific years though - so this was their idea at the time! Honestly id rather go by that, than books from the 2000s not by core themselves. The dates arent bad at all - except for 1979

It's a motorcycle, they function the same regardless of what side of the road you drive on.

No, the driver should be in the inner side of the road, which is closer to the center of the road. The purpose is for the driver to have a better view. The motorcycle in Cairo of TR4 has a sidecar, and Lara is to the right of the sidecar. That's for driving along the left-hand side of the road.
