Default Resident Alien

Resident Alien a new comedy-drama starts on Sky One on January 28th.

It's about a guy who is an alien but says he's not an alien and he's a doctor but he says he's not a doctor.

He crashes his ship on Earth and hides in a remote Colorado mountain town after assuming the identity of the town doctor, his nefarious mission is threatened when he realises one of the townspeople a 9 year-old boy can see his true alien form.

Sounds like it could be good, just have to wait and see.

Alan Tudyk plays the alien for anyone who hasn't heard of Alan Tudyk he played the robot Sonny in the movie I, Robot and Tucker McGee in Tucker and Dale Vs Evil.

I wasn't Tucker and Dale's biggest fan it was good but not great, the woodchipper scene is my favourite when Tucker asked the guy who had jumped into the woodchipper if he was ok.

I thought that there would have been some interest in Resident Alien, judging by the lack of posts there mustn't be any interest.

Anyway I watched the first episode last night and I'd recommend this to anyone that likes science fiction comedy.

The first episode was really funny and the aliens attempts to blend in with the locals is hilarious.

I will say this and as spoiler free as possible for a supposedly intelligent alien he wouldn't have to go "fishing" if he hadn't done what he did at the start, it's a pity he didn't have a weapon like the Stargate SG-1S Zatnikatel so that he could have disposed of the evidence of what he did.

For anyone that doesn't know what a Zatnikatel does the third shot can disintegrate anything and is a better way of making things that you don't want found disappear permanently.

I really like this the rivalry between the alien and the kid Max is great.

One of my favourite Max scenes is when he says to his parents why can't you just be getting a divorce.

Some of my favourite Harry scenes Harry drinking at the pub, Harry in Max's bedroom, Harry taking a picture when he was with a patient and saying that he was taking a selfie, Harry with the cow, Harry swearing at Max in the street and Harry wanting to circumcise a baby.

One of my favourite Harry lines don't trust the sheriff's balls they're nuts.

The dream scenes where Harry imagined ways to kill Max were great and the piano scene is obviously from Zombieland maybe someone working on the show is a Zombieland fan.

Without any spoilers for anyone that has yet to see it, the visitor in episode 5 has a great singing voice.

The Sheriff makes me laugh hoping that there is a serial killer in town just so that he'll have something to do.

A review I read in a magazine the other day gave Resident Alien 2 out of 5 stars I won't quote the entire review just part of it which goes as follows everybody's favourite geek Alan Tudyk comes a cropper as the alien doctor who as written is a role that may be impossible to save, it's an Ill judged and charmless characterisation that might have worked in a more outlandish comedy (like say a live action Futurama) but here is off kilter with the more naturalistic, comedy-drama vibe of the rest of the show.

I disagree with the entire review and can't help but wonder if the reviewer was watching the same Resident Alien that I've been watching.

Alan Tudyk is perfect for the part of the alien IMO, his attempts to blend in are among the funniest parts of the show, I really hope that it doesn't get cancelled it's the funniest science fiction comedy since The Orville.

If only Avenue 5 the least funny science fiction comedy ever made was as good as Resident Alien but there is no hope for Avenue 5 which surprisingly is getting a second season, let's not say anymore about the massive piece of that is Avenue 5, remember that scene in the first Jurassic Park with the big pile of Dinosaur that's what Avenue 5 is.

Everything about Avenue 5 is bad from the characters to the jokes most of which fall flat to the plot of each episode, the show needs some better writers.

Out of all the characters on Avenue 5 there is only one likeable character the ships engineer she should be in command, in space no-one can hear you scream at how bad Avenue 5 is if I had been the engineer I would have gotten into the escape pod and abandoned ship, anything would be better than remaining aboard the ship of the damned, Avenue 5 is a waste of Hugh Laurie's time and if he had any sense he'd abandon the show.

Well, I hadn't even recognized Steve the Pirate. My husband had to clue me in.

But yeah, I think the review is harsh--obviously. I think all the actors are doing a good job. The Closer was one of our favorite shows, and its nice to see the actor who played Gabriel again. He's a hoot as the sheriff.

The wife showing up was a nice twist. I'm glad the kid and Harry have declared a truce. We're very sensitive about child actors in our house--good ones are few and far between---so it's nice he isn't stinking up the joint.

(We enjoy Avenue 5, so we'll agree to disagree there.

I had to Google Steve the Pirate I've never seen Dodgeball so I didn't know who Steve was, I haven't seen The Closer either.

Jodelle Ferland, Abigail Breslin and Dakota Fanning are among my favourite actors who started out when they were kids.

The first time I saw Jodelle was in the first Silent Hill movie, with Abigail Breslin it was Signs there's a monster outside my room can I have a glass of water and Dakota Fanning I can't remember what movie I first saw her in it could have been Man on Fire.

Scarlett Pomers is another favourite who started acting when she was a kid though she did retire from acting to pursue other interests, she played Naomi Wildman on Star Trek Voyager, she has said that she might return to acting at some point.

Another child actor that you most likely have not heard of is Alexa Swinton she was in the TV show Emergence which was unfortunately cancelled and that was only because whatever network aired Emergence in America deliberately showed as few episodes as possible so that it would fail in the ratings and so that they could cancel it.

Another one to watch is Dafne Keen I liked her in Logan and she was the right choice for the part of Lyra Belacqua in the TV show His Dark Materials.

I used to like Macaulay Culkin and Lindsay Lohan, at least Jodelle, Abigail, Scarlett and Dakota haven't gone down the same road that Macaulay and Lindsay did.

I can't see Alexa and Dafne going down that same road.

I watched all of Avenue 5s first season in the hope that it would improve but it didn't, IMO the show was trying too hard to be funny like Phoebe Buffay and came across as annoying, maybe season 2 of Avenue 5 will get some better writers I won't be watching it so I'll never know 1 season of Avenue 5 was more than enough for me.

I would describe Avenue 5 as Titanic in Space the scene in season 1 where some of the characters go out the airlock thinking that they are going to the green room is like a board the lifeboat scene from Titanic, the characters were really stupid to think that they were on a reality show and not a spaceship, did all those idiots who went out the airlock not remember boarding the ship.

Anyway enough about Avenue 5 back to Resident Alien.

A funny Harry line I forgot to add earlier is from when he phoned Max and used a squeaky voice that he blamed on a Tricicle accident

Dodgeball is one of my All Time favorite comedies. If it's on TV, I'll probably tune in. I really don't know how Ben Stiller's wife keeps a straight face when they're onscreen together.

The Closer is good if you like police drama. It turned into Major Crimes after Kyra Sedgewick left.

Plenty of scenes to like in episode 6

The Sheriff playing both good cop and bad cop and trying and failing to get the guy he was interrogating to confess to where he got the drugs

Harry's jealousy at the new town doctor, I hope Harry gets his job back

Harry arm wrestling with both his wife and the new doctor

Harry describing himself as a sexy beast

Harry repeatedly knocking out his wife

The Sheriff for once praising his deputy for doing a good job instead of belittling her, I'd like to see more of him praising her

The deputy talking to a teacher (not Max's mother) who I think is attractive the teacher I mean not the deputy

Harry's wife asking him to name one thing he doesn't like about New York when Harry says he doesn't want to go back to New York and Harry says 9/11

The only downside to the episode Max and Sahar weren't in it

I've been meaning to update this topic for a while now but kept putting it off.

I've been rewatching the last 4 episodes of season 1.

My favourite parts from episode 7.

Harry saying I would grow a mustache as a disguise but then I'd have to get a job as a firefighter or a pedophile

Harry asking what's for dinner saying I like it when you make the mini chickens.

Harry mixing medication with alcohol and hallucinating and talking to a dead guy.

Harry imagining himself in various jobs among them a paper boy and hitting an old woman with a newspaper.

Harry applying for a job at the Bowling Alley and saying he had a PTSD from Stanford

Harry high on Marijuana talking to an alien Octopus in a Restaurant.

Harry still high on Marijuana asking Max to get his mother to put Popcorn on the shopping list.

Max when asked by Asta and Darcy why Harry is going to the Glacier says talk to my lawyer

My favourite parts from episode 8.

From start to finish this episode is one massive spoiler so I can't say much.

The Sheriff saying that he had to slingshot someone's cat down from a cell tower and now the cat has a limp and the cat's owner is suing.

My favourite parts from episode 9.

The opening scene which I won't spoil

Harry swearing at the kids.

Max saying to Harry that his friend Sahar who followed him and knows about Harry said she's not gonna tell anyone she swore to Allah and Harry saying Allah knows? How many people have you told?

Asta and Harry at an Alien convention way too much to go into or I'd be typing all day as several scenes were at the Alien convention.

Harry getting his picture taken with someone pretending to be an alien.

Harry saying that the bodies of the Astronauts that landed on the moon were taken over before they returned, whether they returned while still under the control of the aliens isn't mentioned.

Harry calling the Grays insidious holes the Arcturians jerks, little green men they are cute but they so know it, the Mantis one of them owes me money and the Blue Avians they're actually very nice whether he meant as a people or a snack is unclear.

The Sheriff getting a much needed lesson in how to respect others from his dad and being told by his dad look who's talking when he says it's ok to ask for help.

The Sheriff saying to someone you've got the right to an Attorney if you can't afford one I'd be surprised because this Salon is bangin.

Harry saying I'm not an Elephant.

The Sheriff being a surprisingly good singer, I was not expecting that.

My favourite parts from episode 10 the season finale.

The Sheriff telling someone he arrested that she fights like a fat pit bull.

Sahar getting 100 dollars off the government agents that wrecked her bike and threatening to call the police if they don't give her the money.

Max's parents beating the out of the government agents and Sahar saying that you are like Daredevil and Black Widow.

Jay saying to her dad if you ever touch Asta again I'll kill you.

Harry realising that he'd forgotten the Pizza's and wondering if he would have time to go back for them

The final scene which I can't say anything about because of spoilers.

Still no word on when season 2 will be on TV.

Season 2 of Resident Alien starts on February 17th on Sky Max, looking forward to this I've been waiting what feels like years for season 2.

For reasons unknown season 2 of Resident Alien will now start on February 24th instead of the 17th.
