The Chinese version of the game seems to make this unambiguous


And googling the Chinese words 西安 we get the city Xi'an as a result

市 is Chinese for "city", so 西安市 literally means Xi'an city.

Could that mean the "Great Wall" in the opening level isn't necessarily China's most famous Great Wall...but the Xi'an City Wall?

...Probably not, but it's fun to speculate. ;p

Was the game actually ever officially called “TR2: The Dagger of Xian” by Eidos/Core in any language? I always thought that was a fan addition, and it originally always simply was “TR: Starring Lara Croft”.
