Right now, it is my hope.

Either that, or the movie gets like rave reviews, 100% on Rotten tomatoes and it becomes a big sleeper hit.

Edit: The Disney Live Action movie for May will be the Cruella De Vil movie with Emma Stone. Much more BO-friendly IMO...

On the other end, Little Mermaid is also speculated to be more of a "end of the year" movie, which could also be a good thing for Tomb Raider.

Still, March is way too crowded for my taste.

Any time of the year we were screwed anyway...
Too much Disney remakes and way too much Marvel...

Not every Disney nor Marvel is like the other though. I don't see many hype for the Cruella movie, and while Marvel will always be a hit, not all of them will be 1 Billion dollars, steal all the BO for all the weeks successes...

Super surprised to learn the release date this early ! Even before any screens or an official title. I guess the shooting is coming very soon and maybe the script is ready ?
Glad to know that, even if the date seems difficult. Maybe they will revise this, still a year and a half before it.

I think the script is ready. They announced Amy Jump 6 months ago ... she has possibly written the script and has been approved and for this reason they now confirm Ben and the date.

TR 2018 premiered in March and began filming in January ... that means they should start pre-production now! Possibly they begin to look for locations and actors ... We could know about locations during these months and the actors will be announced in January like TR 2018

I'm surprised we're getting it so soon!

Alicia's performance in the first film was fan-****ing-tastic, so it'll be great to have her back in the role.

I don't know anything about Ben Wheatley or Amy Jump though - would someone care to fill me in, are these names to be excited about?

I just watched this video essay and I think it highlights a lot of the problems I had with the original film, much as I loved it. I hope this sequel tries to be more its own thing, rather than going down a laundry list of references.

Lara's backstory in particular, I felt was so much stronger in the film compared to the game. From what we know about its production, I feel like in the finished product it's almost a remnant of, before they chose to commit more (albeit still half-heartedly) to the source material...

March 2021, that's 3 years after the release of Tomb Raider 2018.

I'm here for it, she did a really good job with Lara Croft. It really felt like she was really trying to be faithful to Lara Croft, especially Angelina's version.
