Agreed that next-gen Lara looks terrible, she just has a sheen to her skin that looks completely unrealistic. But some of the environments look stunning with next-gen enabled. The snow in Nepal in the cave with the river and floating ice platforms is just

Considering that most of the time lara is looking away from the camera, and the gain you get from the enhaced environments, I'd say that yes, turn it on.

Edit: I haven't actually tried next-gen mode on my new PC though now that I think about it, so I'll give it a go and see if I get better results than when I played it on my brother's PC. Last edited by Ward Dragon; 24-02-11 at 16:11. |

If I'm taking screenshots or if I just want to admire the environments, I turn next-gen on. If I just want to play, I turn it off.

It somewhat depends on the level, and on the condition's Lara's in... The game has some truly stunning moments with Nextgen turned on, but other moment the game is incredibly ugly

off, occasionally with it on i can play, but for the most part some levels the frame rate drops really bad with it on.

I played Legend on my old PC, so I had to turn NextGen off because otherwise it lagged like hell. Like other people already mentioned, I prefer Lara's non-NextGen look; but I don't really mind the appearance, tbh; although some visual effects are really nice with NextGen on.

I started replaying in Next Gen mode and I couldn't stand how waxy Lara looks so I started experimenting with Texmod and I found the textures responsible for that. I've made a mod which removes the waxy appearance I also slightly toned down the makeup because it looked strange without the waxiness over it.
This mod should affect every playable outfit in the game (however I didn't bother for non-playable characters). This mod is meant for people like me who like the next-gen environments but wanted Lara to look regular without the extra shiny effect on her skin.
