TR III is hard because it has a lot of cheap, badly sign posted deaths while TR IV is hard because of the puzzles. So IMO both are hard, just in very different ways.

In my eyes, the difficulty of TR3 doesn't compete with the difficulty of TR4. But that's just my opinion, and it seems that I'm in the minority, based on a poll that we once had.

Do you have experience with games outside of TR? If so, which games?

I ask because classic TR has tank controls and so do a lot of games from that era such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill... I had experience with games where movement wasn't as slow and restricted so the fluidity of Legend was easy for me to adapt to.

The games that I've played a lot of are as follows:
Core's Tomb Raider games
Digimon World 1, Digimon World 2003
Resident Evil 4
Banjo Kazooie
Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2
Yoshi's Story
Snowboard Kids
Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
Spyro 3
Rayman 1
James Bond Operation Nightfire
Simpsons Hit And Run
Burnout 3 Takedown

Those are the ones that spring to mind anyway.

I'm really so shocked.
I was 10 when I played TR Legend for the first time and I finished it in two days.
Of course it has its challenges and I got stuck sometimes, but TR4 and TR3 for example are way more harder for me.

Most TR fans do consider TR4 and TR3 to be much harder than Legend. Legend is generally seen as the easiest Tomb Raider game. I am definitely within a tiny minority when it comes to thinking that Legend is the hardest TR game. One of the reasons why I created this thread is because I seem to be the only person who feels how I do about Legend.

Apart from RE4 which has tank controls, most seem to be platformers. A few side-scrollers and RPG's. I don't see how TRL's controls would be a problem for you. Even though you can't compare Lara to the likes of Crash or Spyro, they all have fast paced movement, so it shouldn't be difficult to get used to that.

Was it the combat you struggled with? Was it the puzzles? Did you find yourself asking where do I go now, at any moment in the game?

I think my biggest difficulties were solving puzzles, figuring out where to go and what to do, as well as problems with the controls. I had difficulty with a few fights; the bosses in Japan and England are the ones that instantly spring to mind.

I didn’t find TRL as hard as all those timed areas in TRA and TRL for example.

Are you talking about the timed sequences where you had to press certain buttons on the controller at certain times? They were a pain for me, especially when I was new to them.
