Default How many documents should be in the next game?

Poll requested by MicheleMouse .

Quote:
If the next main Tomb Raider game would be designed according to your taste specifically, how many documents that game would have? (Journals, letters, audio logs, mural and monolith inscriptions.)

I say "according to your taste specifically" because I'd like if everyone would say what's an acceptable number for them, and wouldn't give answers like: well, I'd read like 5, but I know others love reading a lot, so I vote for a bigger number for them. Speak only for yourself, please.

If you can, explain why did you choose what you chose. How many documents would you actually read and why? What type would be interesting to you? What would you prefer: journal types or only puzzle hints? Both? Or maybe something that doesn't add anything to the main storyline? Or the exact opposite? Etc.

Documents in the latest trilogy, base games only:
TR 2013 - 54
ROTTR --- 185
SOTTR --- 182(?)

Not sure about SOTTR because there's no number displayed since the artifacts and documents are under one category, and it depends on us what we count as a document... but it's around 182.

I think 50 is enough.

Yeah, the ammount of documents we had in TR2013 was enough I think.

But one thing that I think it would help would be if we didn't had to stop gameplay to hear the voiceover of the document, but only if we wanted to actually read it. Same thing with relics or other stuff. But obviously only if you want to hear the recording/discription in the first place. Aka like what SotTR treats its collectibles, but with one extra step in the middle.

I thought the way it was done in TR2013 was the best. Rise overdid it big time. And at least Shadow doesn't make you read them automatically.

11-50 is a large bracket. About 25 in the game would be good, if they came with some artistic visuals, too, such as Last Revelation. They'd also need high calibre and engaging writing, so knowing CD's consistently abysmal writing skills, that should be outsourced and the result not be tampered with. The more documents they have the more likely they are to continue being absolutely nonsense gibberish drivel again.

I voted for 50-100 but I think the quality is a lot more important than the quantity. Finding 200 meaningless documents just to pad out the lackluster "exploration" is not fun.
I really liked the Hoshi(sp?) documents in TR2013 and I would like to see more of that in the future.

One thing Tomb Raider’13 did right was the collectibles, so perhaps if they went back and looked at how they handled them in that game. Rise/Shadow felt more of a chore to collect them than actual want. It got to the point we’re I couldn’t even be bothered reading them, I’d pick them up and just close the window just as quickly.

I feel like the devs think, more documents/relics = more exploration when in fact it doesn’t. Less is more.
