It really doesn't. Although the series, pre-reboot, peaked in popularity in the late 90s/early 2000s, people never forgot the "Tomb Raider" brand, nor the Lara Croft character. She's still very much an iconic character, and the massive success of the new game has proven that. People will go and see the movie because it's "Tomb Raider", not because of who's in it. I'd much rather a lesser known actress who could do a great job as Lara get the job over someone well known and not suited for the part.

Actually it does.

If it is her, so what? She's a respectable woman.
A scene like that could just be out of her comfort zone.
In my eyes, she's above that anyway.
If she wasn't even able to make it through a scene like that, how could she portray Lara Croft?

TRCoL had a big name and it was a flop.

What it needs is a good story, and a good director.

How do we know that this James Franco was talking about Emma? And what is this infamous scene she was so supposedly so spooked about? If it is the axe wielding scene, have we not seen her do that already? Which indicates she did finally do the scene? Even so, maybe she was having a crappy day that day?

Emma is capable of action scenes we've seen them in HP, although there was no swearing. I'm not convinced it was Emma this guy was referring to, we don't even know what the scene was.

Exactly...

If this actress walked off the set and didnt film the scene, maybe shes not even in the movie, and they brought Emma in to replace her...

Or, considering that scene in the trailers, early on in the movie, where there are like a dozen or more legit celebrities dying, maybe the actress in question was one of the people who was supposed to die in some funny, crazy way, and she balked and didnt do it.... maybe it was Rhianna? or someone else??

We don't know for sure, we're just speculating. And yeah, she did do the scene but if she was the girl they were talking about, then there is no sense in even putting her name in for Lara, because she wouldn't be able to handle it. She did get it done, eventually, but if it was that difficult she could never do Tomb Raider, if one scene took that long and was that difficult to film, the Tomb Raider reboot would be doomed from the start, they might not even finish it. Plus, if she's a diva no one is going to want to work with her. And it's not like she's the only actress out there in this age range. Why would they even consider her if she wasn't going to fit?

There is a big difference between standing in one spot, pointing a "wand" at someone, shouting words in Latin (kids movie), and breaking down a door with an axe and swearing. There is a monstrous difference between the first and killing people continuously in ways that warrant an M rating - seriously, Lara was like the Punisher in the TR reboot, it was gory, violent, and there was swearing; not for the faint of heart. Don't get me wrong, I love HP, but comparing that to the new TR is like comparing Emma Watson to Marilyn Monroe, it's a whole different ball game!

I really don't want Emma Watson to be Lara. she just doesn't fit the role to me. and yes, the baggage of being Hermione Granger will spill over. it will be ****ing annoying.

Yes, but we don't need a giant name, nor some Academy award winner. We had that, and look what happened with CoL.

You folks act like this is the ultimate role of a lifetime, and that the actress will have to be some sort of acting god.

Even the looks isn't as terribly important - Lara Croft is an athletic woman with brown hair, which can be achieved by most actresses after all.

We just need a decent action heroine.
