It's certainly marks a downturn in the game, yeah. Shanty Town, the Solarii Fortress and that last section of the game (I forget the name) are all ruined by the sheer amount of gunfights.

But yeah, that bit with the the fire and the climbing is all right. Gets a bit stupid at one point though with Lara running up a banister rail (like she thinks she's some kind of competition for Ezio Auditore da Firenze ). Don't see how it could be thrown into a hub randomly, it would mean the scripted bits would have to top it in terms of action and/or excitement.
It may not have been the same point of the game in which we're allowed to explore the Shanty Town, but the Shanty Town was built under and around the Solarii Fortress. You're still technically in the Shanty Town enough for me to call it the Shanty Town. Being that if you travel back to the Shanty Town you can see all of the burning buildings and the bridge that Lara climbs across while Roth snipes, and then runs across as it explodes later on, above the Shanty Town.

Anyfart. I mean take a hub. Literally a hub. Then take a craggy wall, place the craggy wall in the hub like has been done a few times in the Mountain Village, but make the craggy wall crack when Lara scales it. Would make more sense if the wall was covered in a thin layer of ice. There doesn't need to be any explosions or any action before or after. It's just a piece of the environment that breaks as you climb. No slow motion, no characters dying dramatically. Just a craggy wall that breaks.

I loved most of the action moments too. I mean climbing the burning palace was awesome!

Anyone remember someone from CD said some players get lost in Shanty town? That's another thing I can't understand
I got lost briefly in Shanty Town I should hang my head in shame, but it happened because I'd got as far as the gate, then decided to explore a little and even headed back to a camp at some point, before progressing. I somehow ended up getting temporally lost trying to relocate the damn gate.

Shanty Town and the Fortress would have been so much better with less fights, for sure. Shanty Town is pretty fun to explore if you fast travel back to it later. I've done that and encountered a few Solarii along the way, and it seemed natural that some would just be hanging out there, resting up or whatever, rather than 50+ of them all at once.

This would be nice, like a vertical version of the Coregames breaking tiles, just naturally breaking away as you climb. They cold even make the textures different if they like (those floors were always obvious) so you can see you're gonna have to brave that section of the wall.

Also the color scheme and architecture sucked.

All Shanty Town has going for it is it's openness. So yay, we got a huge hub, and it's amazin. But it's pointless. There are some things here and there, to gain XP. But when you arrive, it's all combat, and you just run through. There's like. No design, it seems. And as said above, it doesn't help that it's literally a dump, so that makes it even more off-putting. Though it is gorgeous to explore at night on replay.

Hard to believe it was once going to be a "sunken" palace.

Well it can be gritty and beautiful. It's just. The Shanty Town is a Shanty Town.
