Especially because, indeed, it's one of the games with the worst sales in the series. I hope.
I don't remember that. Are you sure? I doubt a TR2 remake would do under the radar in TRF tbh.

I do. He showcased some 'recreated' levels from Venice before he got a cease and desist.

Yup, IIRC he was planning to 'upgrade' the models and assets but the C&D stopped everything.

^ I remember there was a thread about his remake in the forum. I had no idea he was forced to stop it.

How come some projects like Tomb Raider Memories can be allowed (the Lara model might have been reworked but I'm quite sure the original one was used as a basis as it looks too similar + a prototype was released using an extracted area of the game) and there's no problem here but they have to stop some other projects ? This doesn't make any sense.
They really need to revise their copyright policy...

^The main difference is probably that that TR2 project included exactly the same levels/story/basic experience as TR2, meaning that it was essentially a free version of TR2 but, obviously, SE are still selling the original version of TR2. (I suppose they're turning a blind eye to TRLE recreations of classic TR games because it'd simply make them look bad if they started sending out cease and desist notices for level sets created with the very tool that they themselves officially released for the very purpose of creating level sets .) TR Memories, on the other hand, is an original game with (as far as I'm aware) original levels.

Or maybe they simply want to keep their options open regarding an official TR2 remake and didn't want a fan-made one to be released because of that.

It surely got shut down because of the plans he had on the way it would be working... don't remember what he wanted to do exaclty, but I hope the only reason is got shut down was the mobile ports coming soon after, and nothing else. Wouldn't want this one shut down either.

Sounds like a logical reason. Maybe they would have said nothing if his project required the main game to work who knows...

Or maybe they're just too random and took this decision just to annoy more the fanbase. Just sayin'...
