Got it soon after it was available. Was worth opening the issue on GitHub after all.

Loving Tomb1Main

Could it be made possible for sidestepping to be removed in the controls menu? That way I don't need to waste two whole controller buttons (since I can now just hold Walk like in TR3 onwards)

This is a good suggestion. There would need to be failsafes though because TR3 sidesteps is an option, so the user can disable that and get stuck unable to sidestep. I'll open an issue for it.

Default Need easy tutorial for controller setup please

I'm stuck, how on earth do I get a controller to work on Tomb1Main please everyone?
What are best controllers for compatibility to connect to my pc?
What do i need to do for the game to recognise I've got a controller connected to my pc? I've looked inside the cfg folder at tomb1main.JSON5 file in notepad but I've got no idea how to modify the text inside that file to make my controller functional for gameplay.

I've tried to also set up a controller once I launch the game but nothing seems to be recognised when i press buttons on an xbox series x controller wired and wireless.

First things first : Thank you very much for tomb1main.
I never played TR1 nor TR1 levels because I can't have Lara do the simplest things if not by gamepad.
Somehow using joy2key did not work for me, I do not remember why.

So now I can finally play TR1 levels. (The official game will have to wait )

And thank you once more for offering no-blinking health-etc.-bars. That is a HUGE plus to me.

(a week late, but maybe still helps.)

it is only yesterday that I looked into "would tomb1main enable me to play TR1 levels with a controller?" and yes it does.

I d/l tomb1main installer, ran it , when it asked where the TR1 files are I pointed to the unzipped tombATI TR1 user-level. It then installed itself into My Documents. Starting the tomb1main.exe from there, I had (quite some) trouble with configuring the gamepad, too. (am currently reading all of this topic to see if it has some more info about this, but am only at page 5 so far.)

Iirc (from only yesterday ) I had to use a weirdo mixture of keyboard and gamepad to get to "controls" - for rotating the menu I used the keyboard arrows, but to "enter" I had to use the gamepad's "lowest" button (on my Logitech Rumblepad it is green and has an A on it).
Then down with keyboard arrow, "enter" with the same green gamepad button, and so on until you configure directions to gamepad axises (or dpad) respectively "action" to whatever gamepad button you want it to go to.

It was quite a hassle, because whatever I configured I ended up with duplicate definitions.

If someone here knows how to unassign a function - so it says "invalid", please tell.
Having camera control on the second (right) analogue stick is nice, but accidentally invoking it because I use right-analogue-stick-button can get very annoying, particularly when I have no free button to assign "restore camera"

In the end I assigned all those unused functions that I needed to "clear" to
the "back" button, since I was never able to use that one in TRLE levels, I am fine with not using it for TR1 levels.

edit:
I finally noticed a hint showing in the controls setup, but it either does not work or does not make sense.
Pressing x on the keyboard does nothing (QWERTZ layout), pressing x on the gamepad just assigns chosen function to that button - then conflicts because I use that button for "walk".

I just got a Steam Deck and I followed the guide from someone here a few pages back on how to get Tomb1Main to work with it, and it worked.
Please advise on the following:

1) The resolution seems to be stuck at 16:9 resolutions. Selecting 1280x720 in TR1Main puts black bars on the top and bottom. The Steam Deck is 16:10 (1280x800). I tried to edit the file to force it but it didn't work. Can 16:10 resolutions be added in the future?

2) My TR1 game saves don't work with TR1Main. Is there a .ZIP of all the level saves I can drop in the directory and have available to load at any time?

3) Seeing how small the Steam Deck screen is ... is there any way to maybe give a few options as to how much closer we can get to behind Lara?

Thank you for creating this fantastic program!

On my PCs I previously used TombATI 1.7 without issues, but couldn't get TR to launch on the Steam Deck just by coping and pasting the folder. I couldn't run the executable so I had to research an alternative method.

Make sure you are on the latest T1M release just to be safe (version 2.14). I have only tested wired with my PS5 controller (I don't think PS5 controllers can do wireless on Windows?), but I think Xbox controllers should work wirelessly. To be safe, try to get wired mode working first. Make sure you plug in your controller to your PC before starting the game since the game requires that for now. Nothing else should be needed since Windows should take care of any driver installs. What version of Windows are you on? Idk why it wouldn't work. Try a completely fresh reinstall if it still doesn't work. If you are on the latest release, idk what is wrong.

What type of gamepad are you using? It seems it might not be entirely recognized properly, so the reset/unbind buttons do not match your controller's button. The game defaults to PS1 controls which you can see an image and description of here. You could try holding down your controller's equivalent of the Xbox's Y button (see an image here to reset all the controller's buttons to default and see if that fixes the invalids. Then you could remap the buttons. You can also unbind the right analog's camera controls by hovering over all the "Camera Up/L/R/Down" controls and holding down your controller's equivalent to the Xbox's X button. This will unbind those camera functions, so they will no longer occur.

1) Hm I don't have a SteamDeck or 16:10. I'll ask around.

2) TombATI saves should work afaik. I don't think DOSBox original TR1 saves work though. T1M uses a new save format for any new saves. I don't know of any save compilations atm.

3) There isn't any way atm since it's all original TR1 camera code behavior.

thank you very much.

The problem was: the user.

I can unbind camera controls and specific-weapon-draw perfectly fine, the way you described above.
It is just that I could not unbind functions that were not meant to be unbound, for example "Step left".
So, yeah.

My gamepad:
it is a wireless Logitech F710, in DirectInput mode (can be switched to XInput).
So wireless is not necessarily a problem. One just needs to ensure it is "awake", so "known to system", before starting a game 1st time after booting PC.

Though it has a PS layout, the button naming is Xbox-style (?): A, B, X, Y
Tomb1main seems to recognise it well enough, when I assign one of them coloured buttons, it lists them with the letter printed on the button.

And playing that level for a while now I noticed I actually have two more free buttons (no dash, no duck ) so now I can also use camera controls, because free button for "reset".

Really, you folks, thank you very much. I think I could get addicted to TR1 (main)'s camera behaviour.

Thanks. Let us know if you find any news on 16:10, particularly 1280x800 for the Steam Deck.

My TombATI saves worked. Thanks for the heads up.

Noted on the camera.

Another question, how do I disable the enemy health bars?
